46. I've never tried for longer than five minutes because why bother. Probably longer but at least five. |
49. I stop after I win any plank challenge I am in (with teenage nephews). Usually about 3 min. |
50. 4 minutes because I'm competitive as hell and that's when the other person tapped out. Not that I could have gone much longer anyway. |
How long could I just hold a plank, or how long I could hold a plank knowing I'm supposed to do mountain climbers at the end of them ![]() I think probably about 4 minutes, max. 5 sounds like pure torture. When I am working out on my own without someone else motivating me, I rarely hold them for more than 3 minutes because I love my own comfort a lot. I'm 43. |
30 seconds. Because I am a lazy weakling with health problems - 59.
I can do 1 minute if I do yoga for 2 weeks. |
I know I can a minimum of 1 minute because that's what we do in barre class, my guess is max 2 mins. 58F. |
I usually do 2 min - 49F. I could try to do more but what’s the point of holding a plank for 5 min? |
I can do 10 min easily. I know it sounds like BS so my best friend told me to prove it and I did on the spot. It’s just not hard for me. Now, I can’t run to save my life. I have no endurance whatsoever. But I can plank. I’m 45 as of last week. Female |
5 minutes. 48 yo female |
Some impressive times! There's obviously some self-selection here: Many people who don't exercise have no idea how long they could hold a plank, and people who are good at it are more likely to respond. These times are well above average:
"...your average college-aged female has a plank time of about 1 minute, 30 seconds, while an average college-aged male has a plank time of about 1 minute, 46 seconds (2). That said, you should know that most of these students were considered athletic to begin with, and they all volunteered for the study." (https://physicalliving.com/how-long-should-i-hold-the-plank-exercise-for/) I can do about 90 seconds but when I was doing more exercise I worked up to 2 minutes, then moved to other more intense exercises, which is the guidance I'd read. That is, if you can do more than 2 minutes, a plank isn't challenging enough. 51 year old male. |
A plank should ALWAYS be challenging because a plank shouldn't be about how long you can stay in this position. You should be digging your elbows and toes in and squeezing. If you can hold a plank for more than 30 seconds this way, you aren't squeezing hard enough. Squeeze!!! |
This may be correct but: no. I do planks out of obligation only and no way am I going to make it harder for myself. |
63. Two minutes. |
Probably 90 seconds. But I'm not crazy fit, I'm actually overweight but I do a lot of plates. I might make it to 2 minutes if needed. 39/F. |
