What’s your take?

For one thing, they overshot their budget by $100M.

This isn’t about masks.

1. They eliminated neighborhood schools so that any kid could basically get assigned to any school, anywhere in the city at random.

2. They changed names of schools for bizarre reasons, making the city a national joke.

3. They changed entry for the vaunted Lincoln HS from merit-based to lottery.

And there’s more. Just totally out of touch and incompetent.

Also they removed one of the now-recalled commissioners as VP of the board for her racist tweets, then she turned around and sued the school district for $87M. And another of the now-recalled commissioners stood by her.

These are not issues which you can extrapolate all over the country, people.

Lowell HS. Not Lincoln.

Yes. They renamed Lincoln HS because it was somehow racist(?) but it was Lowell that was changed from merit to lottery based admissions.

Wow, you can't name a school after the president that freed the slaves?

Sorry one more thing about this that I think people are missing: donors to the recall effort were overwhelmingly from SF itself. Something like 85% of pro recall donations had SF addresses. Meanwhile the number for anti recall was around 55% from in the city.

So I do think this election was resonating outside of SF but not in the way that people think. At least fundraising for the anti recall movement was happening nationally.

So progressives outside of SF wanted this recall effort to fail.

Keep up the denial. You’re in for a rude awakening in November.

Nope. November isn’t going to go at all like you RWNJ’s think it will. When the votes are counted, you’ll be even further on the losing end than you are now.

That’s right! You shouldn’t even show up to vote it’ll be such a blue wave.

Actually, we do.

The issues are probably similar in most places. Placing woke priorities, that probably water down curriculum, over actual math lessons.

Yep. Many of their issues are mirror images of what we've seen here. Can't wait to vote in both 2022 and 2023.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco residents recalled three members of the city’s school board Tuesday for what critics called misplaced priorities and putting progressive politics over the needs of children during the pandemic.

Voters overwhelmingly approved the recall in a special election, according to tallies by the San Francisco Department of Elections.

Yawn. They were incompetent and were recalled for that reason. There are major issues with the school district and they tried to do things like renaming schools hoping it would distract people.

This just shows the right wing bias in our media. Same with youngkin win. Terry McAuliffe was a moderate democrats who lost running on moderate democratic issues.

Sorry - what?? Do you even hear how looney you are?

Yes, I think that is true.

Look, California voters are showing that they can tell the difference between progressive idiots (SF School Board) and right wing idiots (the parade of fools the Republicans put up for the Newsom recall). Voters don’t like idiots across the country.

If the Republicans can put up candidates who don’t sound like lunatics, they can win in the deepest of blue areas. This also goes the other way. If the Democrats pin their hopes on the radical left, they will lose.

Oh, absolutely. No doubt many progressives from the DC area were helping fund the anti-recall movement. So glad they failed.

This is also an acknowledgement of the Anti-Asian racism that has come to dominate progressive Democrat politics. One of those ousted, Alison Collins called merit-based admissions racist (https://www.newsweek.com/school-called-racist-san-francisco-1566895). This is exactly what is being played out in the DMV area at the behest of the progressives and to the detriment of Asian-Americans.

The days of the Democrats taking Asian votes for granted are over.

I think this article was pretty good:

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2022/02/san-francisco-school-board-recall/

Politicians everywhere will be facing a massive wave of anti-incumbent fever this fall. That’s to be expected when voters are buckling under a panoply of stressors. California’s recall process, which desperately needs an overhaul, makes it easy to weaponize rage. But make no mistake, SF voters were correct in thinking the school board had failed. And though the defenders of Collins, López, and Moliga tried to claim that the recall was entirely cooked up by Fox News and Silicon Valley millionaires (some of whom did make big donations to the recall petition drive), the evidence of who signed the petitions and the overwhelming citywide, multiracial vote against the board members says otherwise.

Allison Collins said a lot worse than that about Asians on Twitter and refused to apologize when called on it. (I will not repeat what she said here but it was bad.) She was censured by the board, and instead of apologizing even then, responded with an $85 frivolous million lawsuit that cost the cash-strapped district that she supposedly represented $200k to defend before it was dismissed. Her anti-Asian racism is horrifying and deep, and yet she was defended by the progressive wing of the Democratic party.

But that doesn’t fly in SF, thank God.

I agree - but Asians are going to need to start speaking out about this. Not to mention, voting for Republicans.
