If this can happen in San Francisco, it can happen here.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco residents recalled three members of the city’s school board Tuesday for what critics called misplaced priorities and putting progressive politics over the needs of children during the pandemic.

Voters overwhelmingly approved the recall in a special election, according to tallies by the San Francisco Department of Elections.

Also suggests that we keep mayoral control of the schools in DC.

MCPS has been engaging in similar shenanigans as they have been up to in SF. Particularly in killing off advanced instruction opportunities through lotteries intentionally designed to reduce representation of Asian students and boundary changes that create chaos with peoples lives.

Unfortunately there is no legal mechanism to recall members of that Montgomery County BOE. Certainly though Brenda Wolff needs to go. Hopefully though this recall and the numbers of candidates challenging other seats is enough to turn the tide.

MCPS has gone off the rails the past few years. The BOE clearly puts its progressive ideals above students’ needs.

There needs to be some changes.

Let’s call it what it is. Instead of focusing on delivering high quality education, they are using MCPS as a vehicle for politics. The inevitable result of failure to focus on the mission is that the quality of education has declined. They need to get back to basics.

Bowdoin!

Sure they can get into Bates and Colby, too?

You all have no idea what the actual issues in SF were. I knew this site was going to be full of terrible takes on this today.

Keep up the denial. You’re in for a rude awakening in November.

Actually, we do.

The issues are probably similar in most places. Placing woke priorities, that probably water down curriculum, over actual math lessons.

Absolutely accurate. I wouldn’t appreciate it if the BOE was pushing right-wing politics and I don’t appreciate the current MCPS BOE that pushes left-wing politics.

For one thing, they overshot their budget by $100M.

This isn’t about masks.

This isn’t about masks.

1. They eliminated neighborhood schools so that any kid could basically get assigned to any school, anywhere in the city at random.

2. They changed names of schools for bizarre reasons, making the city a national joke.

3. They changed entry for the vaunted Lincoln HS from merit-based to lottery.

And there’s more. Just totally out of touch and incompetent.
