I’ll just add- I don’t see the point in spending resources like this to produce more grinders. I want the best and brightest, and I think that comes from all races and income levels. But I get you’re sensitive here- you think you figured out the game and got your kids taxpayer funded advantages, and that’s not true anymore. Easy to see why you’d suddenly start screaming racism. You can’t contemplate a world where there might be a fairer way to divide the spoils.

The one learning for you should be that you stop using terms like “leveling the playing field” as euphemisms for “racial balancing”. The judge basically said exactly that. All the anti-Asian policies in the guise of social justice is getting called out in the Courts. The Harvard case in the Supreme Court will be a further test.

And it is best to avoid racial tropes like “spending on test-prep”. Those kind of stereotypes are about as offensive as stereotypes of “Uncle Tom” or of Italian mafiosi

Good point. It’s both ignorant and super racists. First of all, professional athletes are usually naturally gifted but it takes more than natural gifts, it takes drive, hard work and determination. And it’s not any different at the highest levels of academia. It’s not good enough to be naturally gifted, you also have to be focused, dedicated, makes sacrifices and work hard.

It’s actually one of the big cultural issues at elite institutions where everyone tries to pretend that their success actually came east for them. It’s a boast that is commonly used to throw your academic competition off and it’s never true.

Natural ability + discipline + hard work will always be the recipe for success.

It’s not a stereotype if it’s true. Please, show me all the examples of inherent Asian superiority, students excelling at these tests with absolutely no private outside investment whatsoever. Listen, it stinks when you think you’ve figured out a hack and have spent a lot of money on it just to find the game has shifted under your feet. I get it. But this is a public school, not a private school, and if the system looks rigged against entire swaths of your population you can bet it is going to change. Use the money and move, because the future is geographic lotteries.

Ok. I m Asian American and my kid graduated from TJ several years ago.

You know what he did to prepare for the TJ exam? I bought him SAT practice book that was about $20.00. He studied and practiced that for about 6 months before taking the test. He also practiced writing essays at home. Not all Asian students cheat, over prep etc. etc. Stop with the offensive tropes.

You just have to study harder and put in the necessary time and effort - like anything in this life. When did a hard work become a sin in this country?

In addition, Asians did not claim any innate superior intelligence. What Asians want is to study hard, work hard and try to become a productive member of the society despite being the only minority group to be an "unprotected group" and despite being the smalless t group which should warrant equal or even more protection as the most vulnerable group of the 3 minority groups. It is possible that some do over prepare but that is totally up to them as long as there is no cheating.

Look at the College Admissions scandal that resulted in 60-70 parents being criminally charged and convicted - criticize that before you generalize about a minority group. I guess you only promote these tropes against Asians and Not AA or Hispanics.

People on here are sounding unhinged, no wonder the teachers were commenting on how toxic the school has gotten. Listen, you can work hard all day long. It’s not a sin, in fact it is necessary for success. The bare minimum. TJ was not intended to be a prize for working hard, to open the doors to the Ivies where you could get a Wall St job and make gobs of money. It was intended to educate the best and brightest and put them on a path to exceed in STEM so they can advance the world for the better. Otherwise why the hell are taxpayers paying for it?

If you need to drill for months just to get into the door, how well poised are you to excel? What do you do when your hard work isn’t enough to exceed the limits of your ability?

I’m not saying Asian kids aren’t smart or don’t possess those other factors, but it does look fishy to have a school that almost entirely excludes other populations. Maybe your assessment that seems so fair on paper really isn’t fair after all. Unless or course you want to argue inherent superiority, which is pretty damn racist.

This is a dumb take. Some talent and a ton of hard work will outperform a lot of talent and some work almost every time. Jerry Rice wasn't very athletic. He just outworked everyone twofold.

When it comes to education, it comes down to culture not race. Some cultures promote working hard on an education as the key to success and other don't. The results speak for themselves.
