can we talk about HS lacrosse.
Club lacrosse is a complete money grab! too many parents are buying into the club lacrosse promise of "college greatness" etc. etc. hate to break it to you, there is hardly any money in student aid at the college level and maybe only half the D1 schools I would even consider sending my son to. Several of the D1 programs are schools that I have never even heard of. |
There is zero money for D3. But the D3 schools include some of the best colleges in the country. Lacrosse, next to crew, is the best way to get a white male a "hook" into a great school he might otherwise not be admitted. Clubs help kids develop and get exposure and will advocate for your son. Yeah, there are some real jerks running clubs out there. There are also some who aren't so bad. Bottom line, club lacrosse for college recruitment is a necessary evil, especially if your son is not playing for a private school in the MCAC or IAC or Zaga. |
Agree with PP...DCE 21 got deeper this year and rolled several older HS teams this fall. |
STA did just fine this fall. beat everyone in the fall ball league except Gonzaga who they lost to by 1 with under a minute to go. not that fall ball is as good as the spring, but it is an indicator that they will be just fine. They have multiple D1 and D3 commits (or soon to be committed) on the team. Only meaningful loss is the goalie but the offense will be MUCH better than last year and the defense will be comparable. And they have a new assistant coach (plays in MLL) who seems to be fantastic. STA came in tied for third last year and there is no reason to think they won't be just as competitive this year. |
| ok FOGO dad. Whatever you say. |
| I believe in the final standing STA came in last. |
You're more right than wrong, bro. STA doesn't get the credit it deserves for being a solid team in a conference that will test you. Their FOGO could compete with anyone last season (except Shockey, but who could) and they got a few guys on offense who are really talented and unselfish, making for a multi-pronged and dangerous offense. I do think you underestimate that VLC pole they lost to graduation. He seemed to provide the energy and aggressiveness that kept STA's often overmatched defense at least in the game. I also think that Next Level guy they brought in as another assistant is a good guy and great teacherwho might be able to funnel good club players to STA. But the problem for STA is that others in the IAC have reloaded. I'm not hearing that STA has. I'm hearing there may be a few strong freshmen and sophs coming up, but they'll be too young and inexperienced to fill any voids. That young goalie did look great in the fall ball game I watched, but as you note, it's fall ball. Good luck with the season. I'm one who thinks it's not healthy for our conference to have non-competitive blowouts, so I'm hoping STA and EHS can bring there game up. |
DCE 2021 got smoked by Crabs 14-7 couple of weeks ago. |
Where/when was the 14-7 game? DCE 2021 beath Crabs 8-2 at the B'more Fall Classic on 11/5, that was the last result involving the team that I was aware of. |
12/3/17 Wheaton Sports Pavilion. |
Box league? Tournament? Scrimmage? |
Different poster. But Wheaton is where they play the Box league. Completely different game. Not saying the Crabs aren't good. They seem like the only team that runs plays, and recognizes that box and field are completely different animals. But to extrapolate like you have is misleading. |

DELETE THIS THREAD. |
Yeah, I was the one asking and tend to agree with you. I think box is useful in developing physicality and stick skills but not sure if success in it correlates to success in spring field seasons. That said for the next few months box games will be all we have to judge head-to-head competition. |
