11. Black Villages
We are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, and especially “our” children to the degree that mothers, parents and children are comfortable.

2/3 of black babies are born to single mothers, so it makes sense that they want society to stop operating with 2-parent households in mind. That's a crazy notion because single parenthood is a 1-way ticket to being poor. But this is why they want to decenter the nuclear family.

11M white peoples are widowed (2M for black people)
19M white people divorced (4M for black people)

So this is significantly more a white peoples problem

Oh OK. Then if you want to go with pure numbers then WHITE PEOPLE ARE BEING SLAUGHTERED IN THE STREET BY POLICE! WHITE LIVES MATTER! Now we can all go home.

Yes they are. Cops are out of control and need to be stopped.

Actually, I'll take my chances. If you don't want cops in your neighborhood, we'll gladly take more patrols over here in Bethesda.

This thread was started because Wood MS deemed it appropriate to spend an hour, teaching kids an entire lesson on BLM today.

Meanwhile, at all MSs, our kids’ Math classes are skipping over material, because there is ‘not enough time’ to teach the entire year’s curriculum.

Strange school system, this is.

You want them to stop teaching Social Studies in middle school?

That isn't social studies. Would you like them to do an equal lesson on the KKK?

NP. BLM isn't a hate group classified as a terrorist organization, an hour is nothing and no one here has the first clue about what CRT is.

I'm actually disturbed we are just accepting the premise. I don't know what was actually taught where and think it's very likely the OP is simply stirring the pot.

There are several people here who are experts on CRT. We've had to do this to counter racist woke insanity.

Everything Kendi says/writes is CRT. And so is this from someone in the MCPS equity division: https://twitter.com/marya_hay/status/1230546821346471939?s=20 Sowing the seeds of hate. Disgusting.

You keep posting this Twitter link as if there's something wrong with it, but I don't understand why? Are you one of those people who want to pretend that society isn't biased towards white people against people of color, and so you think pointing that out is somehow "racist"?

I’m not that poster, but you realize what they’re describing is sort of a twisted version of how the KKK sees “whiteness” right? It’s so far from a mainstream view that it’s not even funny.

What do you mean? Whiteness is a made-up concept that was created in order define certain people as white and therefore superior to people of color, right? And that's what they're basically saying on the flipcharts, right? Or what do you think "whiteness" is?

What they’re saying on the flipcharts is so incoherent that it’s barely worth discussing, but I guess I’ll bite: whiteness is as fake and made-up as blackness or Asianness. It’s meaningless and arbitrary.

Oh and if they want to sound smart, they might want to learn how to spell the word “privilege.”

Whiteness is the most systems a set up to favor white/hetero/rich privilege. Again acknowledging that racism is baked into our society in lots of unconscious ways and that people can benefit from the privileges of a racist system that's designed to support them without being an active racist KKK member.

You can talk about systemic racism without casting it as what “whiteness” is.

I’d also love to know your definition of blackness or Asianness.

The first five principles and number eight are fine. The rest are subject to interpretation.

11. Black Villages: We are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement.....

I accept families that may have their own unique family structure but that does not mean I want to actively try to disrupt the traditional nuclear family structure. I happen to think children are best served with two parents that love them (I don't care whether it is man/woman, 2 women, 2 men). Single parenthood sometimes happen and no one should be punished for it, but it is not the ideal situation in which to raise kids. It creates hardship for parents and kids.

BLM ought to be promoting the notion of the nuclear family instead of shooting it down. They also should also be promoting the idea that Black on Black violence needs to end if they really believe that Black Lives Matter. That is one of the biggest problems in the Black community and it hasn’t been acknowledged.

+1. It is an undeniable fact that the demise of the nuclear family- especially the presence of dad in the home- has destroyed the Black community more than so-called racism ever could.

I am extremely impressed that you managed to cram so many inaccurate ideas into a single sentence.

So the 72% black single motherhood rate is good for the black community?

DP. Of course it’s not, but how is the solution to dismantle the nuclear family?

I was responding to the person who thought that the +1 person had bad ideas. So no, it's not a solution, not to rational people anyway. But BLM believes they can't fix the high single-motherhood problem in their community, so they are trying to normalize it and get everyone else to accept it and support it with their tax dollars.

No Republicans are trying to give tax breaks to married couples denying most families the same. That’s crazy. It goes back to the times when a woman could not own their own land and has to remarry to maintain their own farm.

Try to focus. The GOP isn’t in power right now.

Try to focus, the statement was written in direct opposition to the Republican plan of 2016. They were too stupid/lazy/embarrassed to rewrite it in 2020. But your a Republican that just votes for them without reading their plan so why would you know that.

No — I’m a lifelong Democrat.

Also, it’s “you’re.” You have consistently made that mistake on this thread.

I’m sure most teens have pot or alcohol in the car. Let’s put these thugs in jail.

Tell apple their voice to text sucks!

Well I’m a cop and was a Republican until I read their 2016 plan. Maybe you should educate yourself.

Btw... BLM is the best thing that happened for good cops I’m glad the “thin blue line” is disappearing and we can now report cops that beat people for fun.

Blackness would be a system set up to favor black people. A society that has baked in laws to support black people.

This legitimately made me laugh!

Growing up in an area where creationism was taught in public schools (in a top school system) it’s crazy that there is an outcry over the principles of BLM being taught in school. BLM is much more relevant than much of the traditional history curriculum. Our children should absolutely learn about it in an educational setting. The “leave this for parents to teach” concept is precisely why racism continues to be so prevalent in our society. I cannot adequately teach my kids math, but I can support what they are being taught in school. Likewise, I want the educators to be the ones teaching this, I am self aware enough to know I cannot do it on my own - particularly since I cannot provide the different perspectives/experiences their peers can share in the classroom.

Where is the evidence that teaching BLM principles reduces racism? We usually rely on evidence that something actually achieves the outcome desired before we say it should be taught in schools. Someone show me evidence. Not simply your belief that it’s good for the country. With many policy decisions, we have to critically analyze what we are trying to accomplish through objective metrics and ensure that the policy is accomplishing its goal without unintended consequences.

Stopped? No. Retrained? Yes! But CRT would only have cops training to stop killing black people which is insane. Coos should be trained not to kill anyone.

There isn't evidence as none of this stuff has been critically reviewed. Actually, I take that back. There is anecdotal evidence which the wokes have repackaged as "lived experience" which they demand that you accept in place of data and critical analysis because they have no data or critical analysis. CRT is akin to a cult or a religion.

I would pay to see Kendi or DiAngelo debate this stuff with someone, say...oh I don't know...John McWhorter perhaps. Their religion cannot stand up to science

Well, genius, we can’t have evidence until we actually TRY it. You know, what is happening right now?

They would destroy him. You can’t refute historical facts about how black people have been systematically treated in the US with vague claims of white goodness and how we’ll all benefit from the system if we just play our parts.

Usually we do pilot projects or have surveys or studies to give us some evidence it is effective before we claim it as truth and implement it in schools. There are a lot of people sensitive to ANY criticism of it. Critical analysis (which might involve criticism) is an important part of understanding strengths and weaknesses. Even Obama has criticized “wokeness” because it places an ideal above realism about how to effectuate social change.
