Would you allow your 16 year old daughter to wear one of those almost thong swimsuits?

I don't know if most wear them, but they're increasingly common. And it depends where you are. In Hawaii, those are standard for young women, if not full-on thongs. At 16 especially, I don't think it's a big deal if the girl is happy and comfortable in them. If they aren't string sides, the cheeky bottoms are actually more conducive to water sports.
What made you bump a 5-year-old thread? The people discussing this before you bumped probably have older teens or young adults by now.

You should continue to keep your mouth shut. My SIL said something similar to me. Something about how she can't believe I let my daughters wear those short shorts. I looked at her and said because they like them, they fit into them, they're good kids, and the last thing I'm going to do is shame a girl for what they're wearing.

Okay but you didn’t remotely engage with what your SIL said. And you can’t “shame” a girl (WTF with the overuse of the word “shame” these days, BTW) for the clothes she’s wearing if you just don’t let her wear those clothes in the first place! I realize this is going to blow your mind, but you are the mother which means you are the decider! Stop abdicating your responsibilities onto your underage daughter, maybe?

Well this might blow your mind, but I actually did let them buy the clothes. I DECIDED they can wear them and that I'm not going to make a big deal over a pair of short shorts that 75% of teen girls wear these days. What makes you think that YOU get to decide what's appropriate for all teen girls, Judgy?

Yes, I judge you and your (lack of) parenting. Way to sexualize your teen daughters, Mom! Girl power, amirite?

NP.

You do realize, PP, you are being super judgy right now, right? And that’s a bad thing.

Also, you are not funny, “amirite”.

Ok, that's literally a thong and the only people I see on the beach wearing those are adult women. The OP was talking about swim bottoms that are between full coverage and a thong.

The next up in coverage in their brand difference is minimal. This is very common teen swim team attire.

My kids are fine, thank you, regardless of what shorts they wear. They are kind-hearted, open-minded, cultured, and hard-working kids who get good grades, don't drink, vape, nor have they even kissed a boy. I guess all of this is due to my lack of parenting. Whatever makes you feel better, Judgy!

What does your 34 yo ivy league grad adult middle aged daughter have to do with this? Seems like you just wanted an excuse to virtue signal.

Hmmm… my kids are all of these thing as well. And they also have basic manners, an important aspect of which is not walking around in public with their butts hanging out of their clothes. So I win.

Sorry your girls have low self-esteem, no fashion sense, and absolutely no concept of appropriate dress. I’m sure they’ll still end up IvY sTeM grads like the daughters of the idiot PP above (as if that has anything to do with sexualizing oneself).

Same. My DS and DD, both have been raised with boundaries, manners and common sense.

Raising my kids the same.

- White parent (not sure why you think this matters)

Because that PP is an immigrant living in an immigrant bubble whose sheltered kids will never fit in and will always be resentful about it.

Yeah, but you to talk to them to not stare. I have to talk to my two teen boys to not gawk as it is impolite and disrespectful. Hard to do when there is raging hormones in those teen years.

That’s only if you have unattractive or dorky boys. It would be more impolite for the attractive, popular boys to NOT gawk and stare, because that is what the girls want them to do.

Yes, of course. Exposed buttocks or burkini, there is literally nothing in between. (And your post is exhibit A of why our political situation is the way it is, by the way. Idiotic, black and white thinking on full display here.)
