Would you allow your 16 year old daughter to wear one of those almost thong swimsuits?

While visiting my husband's brother's family this summer, we went to the beach and their 16 year old daughter and her friends wore those bikini's that aren't quite thongs, but about 3/4 of their butt cheeks were hanging out. I'm shocked that DH brother and wife allow her to wear a swimsuit like that, but I kept my mouth shut. My daughters are a bit younger, but is this the kind of swimsuit that most high school girls wear now?

Why are you bringing this up now, Madge? Are you hosting them for Thanksgiving and they are all having fun in the other room while you scrounge up some judgment?

Honestly, another thread made me think about it.

I know that’s what’s in style now but I would have a hard time allowing it. I suppose it’s the same as many fashion trends like short shorts, crop tops, etc. my daughter isn’t quite that age but I have a feeling it’ll be a matter of choosing my battles - if she’s otherwise well behaved and does well in school, etc, I might be more willing to allow some of those clothing choices.

I feel like this is different though. This has most of the A$$ exposed. They might as well be wearing a sign on their back saying "admire my butt, please!"

It's a bathing suit. An extra inch or two on each side.isnt going to make the difference admiring someone's ass and not. My sister picks and chooses her clothing battle with her 16 year old. Her feeling is if she provides some good guidelines now, she will keep it up when she's 18. So she wears those bikini bottoms but with a sports bra type top. Her homecoming dress was tight but an appropriate length.

No I wouldn't.

No, we would not allow it.

The discussions are some of the only times that I'm so so glad that I didn't have a daughter.

We must be thinking of different styles. The swimsuits these girls wore covered a bit more than the crack. Also still their entire buts were exposed.

If my daughter was fat, I would not allow it because I don’t want people to make fun of her. If my daughter was a skank, I wouldn’t allow it, because I don’t want people to take her on. If my daughter was a normal, athletic, and basically innocent person then I would.

I’ve hit menopause, and it is cruel how a small change in body chemistry wrecks the female figure. I am happy for girls who are in shape, and as long as they are not looking desperate or insecure or otherwise vulnerable tjen I say fine. Guys flaunt all the time, and we don’t shame them for it

Agree.

My SIL made my niece change clothes before she was allowed to go Black Friday shopping yesterday. She asked me if I thought she was right. I told her I wouldn't have worn that outfit, but I'm not sure that answered the question.

I'm sure you have more important things to think about.

Who cares if they wore those suits? Are they nice human beings that contribute to society in a productive way? I'm assuming they are great girls.

Stop slut shaming other women.

Olympic divers now wear that suit, so I'm fine with it.
