When is this? Fall 2026? Honest question. Too tired to google.

Who is falling for or shopping Black Friday? That’s old news.

Prime day was a bust. Black Friday will be too even if reopen.

50% consumer spending is by the top 5% or so — they aren’t getting up in middle of night to fight crowds for a cheap big screen.

The other 50% don’t have money for discretionary, with slashed income, rising food prices, and exploding health care costs for ACA and private employer plans.

I posted for you and this was the intend of my message except I was too tired to talk more. Black Friday is about as contrived as Valentine’s Day. My family and I have all that we need materially. If calm from the chaos and peace of mind were for sale maybe I’d order some—online. And it’s not.

PP. Before you not for you. I had posted essentially who cares about Black Friday? Even if I had young kids (college student) I’d scale way back and focus on experiences not things.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Tuesday he is not in favor of a stopgap measure that would only fund the government until December, preferring a January time frame.

As I posted somewhere on here I can imagine it lingering into 2026. Can’t you? It’s a sad somber time. Even if you don’t work for the government it’s impactful. Family member can’t file for retirement bc OPM is shut down. Their retirement is literally locked in a building.

There will be growing pressure until Thanksgiving.

I maintain my previous estimate of "just before Thanksgiving". In a spirit of coming together for the American people, blah blah blah.

Im guessing late next week. Just based on vibes. I think the moderate Dems are dying to vote to reopen and all the noise is the rest of the Dems trying to get them to hold out for something.

Everyone said that last week because, you know, vibes and all. Mike Johnson still needs to bring his homies back and there is absolutely no indication that he’s willing to do that.

Personally even though I hate to see them cave they would be rescuing Americans from furloughs, unpaid work, food shortages and missed TG family time. They may not be able to save us from all the Republican damage.

Sure, but how much stomach do you think 8 centrist Dems have to wait him out? I think we're hitting the limit soon. It would be so easy for Republicans to just throw out a one year subsidy extension and end this all any day, too.

This is dumb. I'm 4 weeks out from my last (partial) paycheck and am going to have to start drawing down from savings for groceries this week. Fortunately I have plenty, I've been preparing to be fired since February, but I'm so ready to go back to work.

nope... use local money for food and bills, stop sending money to the feds.

I think it’s time for Democrats to stop “saving” Americans from the Republicans. We voted for the Republicans! We put them in charge.

They are going to let Johnson's CR expire on the 21st. Then the House will be forced to come back to vote ahead of Thanksgiving travel crush + the Epstein discharge petition. It will likely be a package designed and drafted by the Senate, the House will just need to vote "Yes" to get it moving.

So yeah, two more weeks before we see anything happen. Federal government reopens at 12:01AM on Monday, the 24th.

I've been saying this for weeks.

Democrats need to have faith in President Trump and root for his success. Our country depends on him.
