Sounds like a dreamy recipe for happiness.

You’re being racist, plain and simple. If these stats came from a white UMC girl in jersey, you’d be falling all over yourself with what a great parenting job her family did . But an Asian girl - noooo it’s all tiger mother nightmare.

Can we choose a normal country like Denmark, Norway, France maybe for the next winter Olympics? Some place that actually appreciates the winter sports and would provide a lovely scenery and backdrop to the games, and would treat the athletes with respect? I remember as a kid watching Lillehammer and the beautiful villages they put together for those games. Canada did a beautiful job several years ago.
What do we get with China? A giant ski jump with huge nuclear smokestacks and cooling towers in the background.
Everything surrounding the ski slopes is brown and bare and ugly. There's no snow. No beautiful lakes. No wintery scenery. just awful. I feel bad for these athletes

Not saying I support China hosing, nut on the plus side I am happy to see that they were able to reuse many of the facilities that were constructed for the 2008 summer Olympics. I think it is a shame that these facilities are often constructed just for the games and don't get used again.

No normal countries WANT the Olympics, because they are horrible and corrupt S shows. They want you to spend billions of dollars every time, and all of the data overwhelmingly show that the Olympics are often a net loss for the host country. The Olympics are dumb. That's why many totalitarian regimes are interested in the Olympics - they already run the country on tons of corruption. A few billion in investment is a small price to pay to project propaganda to the rest of the world. Totalitarian regimes use the Olympics to legitimize themselves. They don't care about the price and cost to their people.

In fact, their cloth were normal, and even the Japanese player was kicked out for her cloth of a difference of 2 cm, and their cloth were perfectly fine for multiple international competitions. Also in speed skating, a Hungarian and a Chinese athlete both pushed to the finish line, but only the Hungarian athlete got disqualified, and the Chinese athlete won the gold. Additionally, Canadian players have had a similar experience. The Chinese player threw the puck at one of the Canadian players while skating, and then pushed its body at the Canadian behind her. Funny thing is, only the Canadian players were disqualified, and the Chinese players won. Finally, the same thing happened to Korean players. Chinese players blocked and pushed, but eventually the Korean player won the gold, but in the end they got disqulified for ridiculous reasons, and China won again. What a farcical games. Of course authoritarian regimes like China consider it a d*ck measuring contest. There are also accusations that China is literally starving out athletes with terrible food, and also locking them down with dubious covid excuses so they can't do things like practice. Just a horrible S show sanctioned by the IOC.

Yep. Total sh-t show. China is starving athletes and locking them up for aymptomatic covid in rooms so small they can't exercise.

+100

Would've been better off to boycott the Olympics.

I'm hoping the silver lining will be that all these athletes and their respective countries calk out how sly and dubious Ch is and only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to world affairs.
Curious to see how much of an international backlash will result moving forward with global policy.

If documented Chinese genocide against Uighur people doesn’t get people upset, then some misconduct at the Olympics will?

Not disagreeing with anything else you said, but it's not a nuclear plant, it's an old steel factory. (Yes, things other than nuclear plants have cooling towers.) The repurposing of an old industrial site is one of the few good things I can say about the Olympics (reuse of the 2008 facilities being the other.)

I love that they're touting their more environmentally friendly Olympic torch, while ignoring the impact of having to make ALL the snow that's being used.

They are not baseless. All you have to do to discover how white people feel about Asian overachievers is to visit the college or AAP forums. Any Asian achievement is written off as tiger parenting. White achievement, in contrary, is always presented as self driven, and applauded. You're blind if you deny this.

Agree. I can’t believe this is allowed. Especially with what they did regarding covid.

And the ongoing genocide of the Uyghurs! Hello people! China is in the midst of a HUGE genocide. No one is doing anything about it!!!!

China should never be allowed to host an Olympic games again. EVER! They should be boycotted. Talk about ethnic cleansing.

+1. I’ve pointed this out before, but the “normal” countries who initially threw their hat in the ring for this Olympics all pulled out. It came down to Beijing and Almaty as the finalists. The demands on host countries and costs have become too big. Now, it’s in Milan next time and I believe e both Sweden and Norway are back in the running for 2030. But this is going to be an ongoing problem.

+1 to this. In this age of more attention to the environment/sustainability I think the IOC should institute a new policy that they will only pick a new location for each summer and winter games every 12 or 16 years and in the intervening years they will return to cities/countries that have already hosted.

So they dq’d a bunch of women in the ski jump due to “loose uniforms”, despite the fact that those women had already worn those very uniforms in prior stages. At least one of the women dq’d pointed out that her uniform had been much more form fitting before she had been underfed in quarantine.

Such a sh!t show.

Returning to add that those dq’d included the anticipated medalists in the event.
