Bullis HOS “exit was messier than it appeared” according to the Post

Anonymous
I wonder how much the board disclosed to the new head before he accepted the position? And between the time he accepted and the time he actually started in July 2020? No matter how much they are paying him, I can’t believe he would knowingly step into this mess.

How many private schools in even have in house counsel to begin with? Traditionally schools have always relied on a BOT relationship or an alumnus to provide some counsel work at a reduced fee.

How in the hell did Bullis board even approve for the headmaster to go out and hire for this position in the first place and on top of this, a $600K golden parachute settlement for providing counsel for a private school.

There is clearly a lot more to the story and she must know a lot of stuff Bullis is trying to keep quiet.

Something is not adding up here because no competent BOT would actually vote in favor of this.

This need to see Bullis implode is hilarious! Knock yourselves out!

Why so much hatred for one small private school? I don't get it!

Being on the losing end of sport rivalries. People won't admit it because their facade is believers of high morals and high academic standards. But as you can tell, they are very invested in their hate for the school. Athletics are a big deal in the IAC as is school pride.

The STEM building is really just an empty shell with no STEM program inside. At the opening ceremony, Boarman gaffed when he said the "E" stands for entrepreneurship. He never intended to boost academics -- the building is smoke and mirrors. There was very high turn-over of teachers in the science and math departments. Upon closer look, the labs are nothing better than a 1960s college science lab. Boarman loved to brag about spending over a million dollars on furniture alone for that building. It looked like a furniture showroom threw up all over it. He put the GC in charge of furniture selection, and they took trips on the private jet to the showroom in Michigan. Students used those cozy study nooks on the 2nd floor for watching Netflix. It's a shame they mixed Kindergartners in the same building with 12th graders. More than a few lower schoolers had quite a fright using the restroom where the upper schoolers were vaping. The new "1930 Grill" further divided a student body already struggling with diversity based on SES. Those with means paid to eat in the new building, while everyone else dined for free in the cafeteria. Consequences of some very poor planning.

Can anyone provide an example of a high school that has built a genuinely amazing and functional STEM expansion? I think all of the "STEM" buildings I've seen at day schools are just normal building/wing expansions with a buzzword attached to it to gin up families and donors.

Exactly. It's a parent/money magnet.

Anonymous wrote:I didn't read every post on here, but I haven't seen much attention paid to the fact that Bullis paid Nazareth an exit package worth over $600,000.

That seems like an enormous package for a non-profit school. There definitely must be a lot more to this story if they were willing to pay her that much to leave.

"A few days after the investigation started, records show, Nazareth filed a hostile-workplace complaint against Fink. She left Bullis in August 2018, according to a copy of her severance agreement, which shows Bullis gave her a package worth more than $600,000 in severance, leave and other benefits."

and why does Bullis need an in house counsel paid $165,000 a year?

We were at another local school and there is not an inhouse counsel.

If the lawyer who knows how to do this stuff without getting detected is not on the board, you have to hire one.

the Bullis boosters love to tie everything back to sports.

What else would explain the vitriol towards teenagers? It's not from heated spelling bees between the schools. Sporting events are really the only times the different communities interact. Then it conveniently spills its way over to an anonymous chat forum.

Correct me if I'm wrong. What else would drive adults to spew hate towards kids anonymously. Just own it!

Agreed, let's not blame the kids for anything here.

The article exposes a situation that the administration and board of trustees tried to hide from the public, including their own employees and families. ALL Bullis students are already the victims of this situation, and they don't need random hate. Direct the anger where it is deserved -- Boarman's administration and the board of trustees.

Do NOT respond to the Lawyer trolling for a Libel claim

Just refer to the Public Record and the Washington Post expose.... https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/the-head-of-an-elite-private-school-was-celebrated-as-he-left-but-his-exit-was-messier-than-it-appeared/2020/08/13/13d1c9b4-ba05-11ea-8cf5-9c1b8d7f84c6_story.html

and maybe if you gave a friend at DOJ or IRS, give them a tip

No one is directing vitriol at Bullis Athletes.

Far from it- they are still legally minors and are due " In loco parentis" by Bullis, which is one of the concerns:

talented Athletes recruited to a MD Private and living with Board Members is what has been posted here. Not sure if that is true. I just read it. But, to be placed -as a minor- away from your parents home into the home of a Board Member of a Private School who then benefit's from your Athletic performance raises MANY ethical if not legal issues:

1) were these minors brought across state lines ?
2) were background checks performed on the Board members whose homes they were placed in after these minor students left their parents home
3) were these minors required to meet the educational requirements for their HS Diploma AND who is Auditing this ? Are teachers of these Student/ Athletes being deposed
4) what are the NAIS and MD accreditation boards doing as far as due dill
