The article says the opposite, Cox leads Schulz by 3 points.

Haha holy shit. I've actually been told that she is not a good debater and is not someone who should be going off script and that's why they've done a lot to hide her. And that's why they've done a lot to hide her.

I would assume all the people that switched from D to R will vote for Schulz.

And republicans have to understand that Cox getting the nom is a surefire to guarantee a Dem governor

I don’t think there are a lot of Ds in Maryland switching to R to vote for Schultz when there’s a huge D primary with three candidates tied for the lead. Maybe lots of Is will switch but not Ds.

Probably, but my comment was more in regard to the nationwide trend: https://nypost.com/2022/06/27/more-than-a-million-voters-switched-to-gop-in-last-year-report/

Suburbs are moving to the right, and its not an embrace of Trump, but a rejection of progressives, which would be supportive of Schulz, not Cox

Not necessarily. If you think VA in 2021 elected a Schulz and not a Cox, you weren't paying attention. The rhetoric used was not one of anti-liberal policies but one of fear and misinformation.

Md is not going to give this to a Republican. Not after the last 7 years of Trump world and crazy people. Not happening. Md will shore up its left pretty solidly.
So, no- Schultz is not going to get in.

I agree 100%. Voting R for Governor in a solid blue state like Maryland is a completely different tactic than voting R in purple states like Virginia. We can safely reject progressives without embracing extremist Republicans. We all need to move closer to the middle.

Nope. Not going to happen. Not after today's stunt. Md will be wholly Democratic. Thank goodness.

A Democrat governor.

Lots of Democrats liked Hogan, but after the GOP-backed forced births and mass shootings, we need to elect as many Democrats as possible.

Blue wave.

Absolutely. We need to save our state.

Youngkin gave different messages depending on his audience. His main TV ad was I think about working as a dishwasher or something like that, a bootstrap kind of guy. But he certainly also played up the culture war stuff in places where it suited him. But he was very clear that he did not stand with Trump. Schulz has that Trump ambiguity. Cox obviously does not.

Save our state from what exactly? The biggest issue in Maryland is ineffectual and sometimes corrupt government, going back to Agnew (actually even further, which is why the Assembly did not have control over the budget). We need to be saved from bad governance. What we need are better leaders, not more of one party or another.

I saw many John King’s signs in Bethesda and some for WesMore.

We need a good leader who is a Democrat. The crazy wing of the GOP made it so.

I have nothing against moderate Republicans personally. But in this post-Roe world with increased mass shootings and a trigger-happy Supreme Court (pun intended); in which the GOP has actually warned it would investigate Hunter Biden and impeach his father if they win back the House and Senate...

... A Republican governor is not going to fight the tide of evil. However principled in their own governance, they just won't be able to stand up to their party. They're beholden to some of the same donors. They will be forced to either toe the party line or shut up.

So we need the best of what the Democrats can offer, whoever that is.

Bumping the OG thread for results, and this:

“In a primary season that’s offered a battery of tests of Donald Trump’s hold on the Republican Party, the gubernatorial primary unfolding tonight in Maryland may reveal more than most about the GOP’s post-Trump state of mind — and his 2024 prospects.

That’s because unlike in a red state like Ohio or Nebraska — or even a swing state like Pennsylvania or Georgia — Maryland’s election isn’t purely a preference statement. Republicans in Maryland know their state’s electorate is so heavily Democratic that there’s probably only one kind of Republican who has any chance of winning in November.

It isn’t the Trumpian kind, which means we’re about to see just how much electability matters to GOP primary voters.”
