He's a fairly inexperienced county executive with no real name or reputation. And with a problematic and highly unpopular school redistricting happening under his watch. It could backfire spectacularly. I'm not sure what advantages he could bring over more established Democratic potentials. |
| The MD parties are very good at selecting less than competent candidates. Basically the party that selects the lesser of two evils is going to get their candidate elected. Tell me the last time that both parties ran a decent and competent candidate. I've been a resident of MD for over 25 years and I can't really recall such an elect in my years here. |
I am a democrat and I will not vote for a democrat as a governor for MD. Balance is necessary. All politicians are aholes, and they will screw us if they can get away with. I will also not vote for any democrat and even a URM conservative. |
OK, then he just pretends to be a fool. |
You must be an Independent. |
This is me and I voted for Hillary but voted for Hogan for Governor. Agree this state desperately needs balance and that all politicians are aholes. |

No way it will be Calvin Ball. Howard County had a moderate (Republican) County Executive, but voted Democratic and are now outraged with what they got.
He is so unpopular in HoCo because of development and redistricting, I can't see him as a viable Gubernatorial candidate. |

It will be Peter Franchot, who announced yesterday he’s running for Governor. Here are the results of his most recent election, for his fourth term as Comptroller.

I hope not. He just double dealt on his Beltway widening vote. |
|
How about Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner?
She's a woman, moderate, won twice in a swing county. |
| Someone not from Baltimore. |

Yes, Peter Franchot just declared that he will run for Governor, but he has not actually filed yet.
I predict that it will be Boyd Rutherford vs Peter Franchot for the next election and that Peter Franchot will probably win, but narrowly. Lt Governors have not done well in MD for some time. In part, it is due to the fact that most Lt Governors do virtually nothing and then have one or two detractions against them (like Anthony Brown's debacle of rolling out the MD marketplace for ACA health care). Boyd Rutherford does get the benefit of having no failures in his term, but he also doesn't seem to have any successes either. There has been very little news about what he's done as Lt Governor for 7 years now and that doesn't look good. Peter Franchot has had a lot more news about him and his successes in the news and that will probably lead to him having an advantage in the general election. |
The Democrats in general don't like Peter Franchot. In fact, a lot actively dislike him. |
That's a good sign. Maybe I'll vote for him. I like that he worked with Hogan on the 270/495 improvement project. |
