Reading this thread from the beginning, obviously Ball didn’t run for Governor but it will be interesting to see the results of his re-election campaign for HoCo Executive. So far without any mail-on votes counted he has twice as many votes as the top GOP candidate. |

Same. But maybe the mail votes will change the margins. I expected it to be a tight 3-way race with the winner squeaking by. Franchot is a distant 3rd. |

Yeah, he will still be county executive because no one except right wingers, too active on FB, and who make up stories about him, will vote against him. He is not in developer's pockets..such an old trope- plenty of development happened under everyone's watch for years, he doesn't own this, and he has ZERO to do with school redistricting. ZERO. Redistricting is done through school board. He is affable, hands on, progressive, very very hardworking, inclusive, and professional. He's a pretty great county executive. I hope his career will continue at the state level after his tenure here in HoCo. |

There are a lot of people in HoCo pissed about redistricting, but they tend to blame the school board as opposed to Ball. Ball is somewhat responsible for the overcrowding in schools though. Too much unchecked development in HoCo, and developers haven’t been made to contribute enough capital to building new schools. That’s poor planning. |

What a weird comment. Everyone likes Calvin Ball. HoCo is killing it right now. Highest average household income in Maryland. Top rated schools. I have a feeling that Calvin Ball will be the next MD Senator after Cardin eventually retires. |

Let's explore that. He's been a CE for such a short time, and not at all during high growth periods here. He actually purchased the property in EC zoned for massive development from the Girl Scouts, so it wouldn't be developed. There's been extremely low building construction in the last 4 years. All counties grow in population, Howard is no different. What is causing overcrowding has nothing to do with Calvin Ball. The entire western part of this county was developed before he was even in college. And, again, schools have to be redistricted, and it has nothing to do with unchecked development right now. In fact, in the older sections of Columbia, there's been virtually no new housing. Redistricting is a loaded issue here because it involves income and racial disparity. All the blame going to Ball has absolutely no merit or fact, and yet there's always this trope about developers when it comes up. I saw all the ridiculous suppositions and lies during the last redistricting, it was all racially based. Pretty scary stuff on those FB platforms. We are redistricting again...new high school - you want a new high school, right? And another one, right? Well, then shut up about who will go to them. This is how it works. But, yes. He will be elected again because, unlike your opinion, he is a very good CE. Get off those toxic FB pages and find out what is actually going on yourself. |

I am very, very impressed with Calvin Ball, and, yes, he has my vote! He is a real boots on the ground county executive- a functioning and participating member of the community. He lives in an older community in Oakland Mills, not some McMansion in the western part, so he us able to relate to the actual issues and he has good people around him to help him do that. The best way to describe him is "authentic." There's no ivory tower. He's responsive, vocal, proactive and addresses issues in real time. He uses social media the way a CE should...with relevant info, personal and community info and facts, and he becomes a friend to everyone if he wasn't already. He has addressed equity, senior issues, building and zoning, etc. No, he doesn't run the schools, he has nothing to do with redistricting  , but he addresses issues pertaining to schools, particularly good during the pandemic, and works really hard to solve problems.
Keep an eye out- he has a remarkably bright future in Md. Signed, Older White Boomer ( **ok, younger Boomer as Boomers go, but yes, a Boomer who is much older than his demographic.) |
