My theory is that Kevin's fiancee is deja's birth mom. We know he likes african American women and it would really mess with randall and beth if they got together.

This is not going to happen.

agree. too far fetched.

How about Madison for the win? She’s the real-life wife of the show’s creator, who once said he wasn’t going to let his wife sleep with Justin Harley on TV, but things change, right?!

No way. We’ve already seen how much she annoys Kevin. It’ll probably be someone new.

I think (and blogs are predicting) that the fiancé is Cassidy since the timeline would make sense for when they slept together.

Nicky is my favorite character. I loved what they did with his story in this episode. And that one scene where he flashed a real smile-- very handsome and endearing!

Just in terms of looks, the young man Nicky and contemporary Nicky really look like the same person. The casting continues to impress me.

+100
I love Nicky. And it was so sweet when Kevin notes (to Randall) that Nicky *is* cute. I love that Nicky and Kevin have grown so fond of each other. I wish Nicky could meet someone. It’s so sad that he’s been alone all this time.

There is no way he would date/get engaged to/have a baby with Deja's mom b/c of how it would affect Deja. Besides, the kid in the future was Caucasian. I don't think it's Cassidy b/c he didn't want to break up her family and Nicky (who I also adore, pp) told him it was a boneheaded move to sleep with her. My money is on Sophie. Yes, she was engaged but the last time they showed her talking to Kevin on the phone she looked over at her fiancé and the look could be interpreted two ways: 1. I'm so lucky to have you or 2. I wish I was with Kevin - my true love. I always thought she was thinking #2 and that they would find their way back to one another.

I agree with the pp that he isn't speaking to Randall b/c of issues with Rebecca's illness. He has always been jealous of Randall's relationship with Rebecca. Something probably blew up that if the other two had known, would not have blown up. But obviously they have resolved it by the time they meet in Kevin's kitchen in the future. And yes, I am aware it's a tv show .

Agree with all of the above! I also think Randall and Kevin aren’t speaking due to Randall keeping Rebecca’s health issues a secret from them.

One thing I found really strange - why did they even let Rebecca go do an errand by herself if they knew she was deteriorating? I’m talking about in the flash forward, after it’s clear Miguel and Randall have taken her to the doctor and are well aware of what she’s dealing with. It just seemed like they were all very relaxed, waiting at the cabin for her to come back, no one panicking at all when the police brought her in. You’d think at that point, someone would be with her at all times.

The scene in the car with Nicky reacting to the song was heartbreaking. Everything Jack has told Randall about that song was exactly what Nicky had told Jack. I still don’t quite understand why Jack cut off Nicky altogether. So many wasted years.

My guess is that she just went off to do the errand without telling anyone. If it's less than a year forward, she wouldn't have deteriorated to such an extent that they wouldn't let her out of their sight around the house. People with Alzheimer's do wander off. I used to date someone who was an expert at finding them and worked with first responders. (He studied wandering patterns of lost people-- Alzheimer's patients, lost kids, lost hikers, etc.) Kate and Kevin, etc., had probably gotten a call from the police saying they were on their way home with her.

It has never made sense to me, either. Giving up on someone-- especially someone so dear-- seems really out of character for Jack.

It was the timeline. Jack died soon after he told Nicky that they were finished and he never wanted to have anything to do with him. Nicky mentioned that last season. He put two and two together. When told when Jack died, Nicky said something like, “that’s why I never heard from him again. He died. I never knew. I just thought he hated me so much that he really didn’t want me in his life. Therefore I just stayed away.” Of course I paraphrased.

I just popped in to say that Rebecca losing her phone shouldn’t have been enough to raise alarms. I lose my phone several times a day!

Can I just say how much I love Kevin with his nieces, especially with Tess? He's so great with them, and Beth loves that about him too.

This show doesn't return until after the New Year.

But he had already effectively cut Nicky out after that incident in Vietnam. The triplets were in high school when Jack died but he had never even mentioned the existence of Nicky to Rebecca or the kids.

This was addressed upthread. The concern was generated more by her hostile and defensive reaction than by the loss of the phone itself.

+1
I love the way he always knows what to do with them, how to make them feel better, etc. of course, I know all those moments are scripted for him, but I still love it! His character is actually very wise.
