W3 would be fine with the set asides as long as it doesnt add to overcrowding. The only way it works is to build more schools in W3. |
It could be headcount neutral. So you'd lose any of the OOB students now who aren't at risk and replace them with kids who are. |
Can't lose them after they are already there, they have rights to stay in the school and go through the feeder pattern. With schools where the entire class is IB for a by right grade, there is no replacing to do. There's either further increase class side for the at risk kids or create additional classrooms. In hat broom closet they'd put those in certain schools, I don't know. |

You're right. DCPS decided to keep the OOB feeder rights (and double down on them in Jan). They didn't actually have to.
They are mandated to do the Catania at risk set asides and flout that requirement. |
|
I am so happy to say good bye to DCPS! Hopefully we will be able to pay for private (with our modest combined $100,000 income!) all the way to HS and never look back.

Guess you're not connected |
Only to my principles! |
She did get away with it. As her defenders correctly state, she didn't do anything illegal. It's just embarrassing and shameful. Bowser should make a statement by sending the crony admitances back to their IB schools or recognize that voters will react if she doesn't. |
What's so desirable about 'at risk' kids. They tend disproportionately to be discipline problems and consume a disproportionate share of teacher attention and school resources, to the detriment of other kids. |
Lots of connected people did not request a placement. |
This board loves to pine away for David Catania. He wanted to help at-risk kids have a chance of success by placing them in the city's highest performing schools. It is a good strategy. But the Catania=lovers don't love this aspect of what he was trying to do. Ensure equity -- by giving those kids who are most disadvantaged extra help to get a chance at an education. |
Stop treating the children like pawns. They didn't game the system. They didn't deserve to be outed in this fashion. |
STFU. |
Ask not what at-risk kids can do for you, but what you can do for at-risk kids. smh. |
Their parents did and they shouldn't get away with it. bowser can show that she supports crony politics or take a stand and do what's right. The voters will notice either way. |
