Don't muddy the waters with facts, logic and reason.
Or how about don’t change the subject. Just go ahead and admit you are a culture warrior.

How is it changing the subject to acknowledge that as schools keep trying to teach about gender and sexuality issues, our international test scores in math and reading and science have fallen plummeted? There are only so many hours in the school day for instruction.

OP here - agree. I don’t care if a word problem says Dan and Matt have $50 to spend on gas to get them to Philly for their nephews bar mitzvah. It costs $6 a gallon. How much will it cost to get there?

That doesn’t require a sexuality discussion. It’s just what you might see in society. It’s a fact.

Math teacher here. I posted on the page before this. I don’t care about that either and am fine with your example. Where I have an issue is when people come into my room with pressure to hang up posters for pride month (when it’s not even June because we don’t have school in June) and to support other causes and then insinuate I’m MAGA or R because I don’t allow any hanging up of anything other than my own posters in my room. Like my content posters. This is what is happening in schools today.

Agree.

All those flags and decorations passed around are uncomfortable for everyone- most teachers, parents and students. No need for that at school.

In Wash DC the large international population really finds this all stupid and unnecessary. And the math expectations too low. So two way swing in the misguided USA schools.
Those are to two comments we always hear at IMF, world bank, IfC, the neighborhood and soccer games.

The rest of the civilized world isn’t as religious as we are. In America, we’re not too far off from the time where we burned uppity women and picnicked at the feet of black men lynched by preachers wearing sheets.

Europeans absolutely think America’s race-focus and manufactured gender issues in schools are misguided and ridiculous. Sub Saharan Africans think that too. So does any Black person in London where I’m originally from. They would never move here for this very issue.

So people who never lived in America have opinions about the experiences of people who lived in America. I mean, maybe ask your black South African friends if they think Americans have overreacted.

DP. I have a Black friend originally from Africa living in the US and she told me that a lot of people would approach her and/or try to befriend her, assuming because she is Black, she would automatically be interested in DEI related events and causes. She always politely declined saying she was too busy or whatever excuse. In truth, the cause didn't speak to her lived experiences. She said then she was basically shunned by those groups.

African immigrant here. This has been my exact experience as well. I am constantly approached by very strange and disturbed people, who have a range of far leftist beliefs. These are mostly white people but also African Americans whose blackness is entirely academic. They're always strangely excited by me and assume that I share their beliefs and priorities. Unfortunately for them, I believe in society and its traditions and do not seek to deconstruct or "queer" anything. I immigrated for economic reasons, not to have my time monopolized by unwell people who see an actual, authentic African woman with an accent as the ultimate find to add to their collection of human misfit dolls.

The "social justice" movement in this country is overrun by grasping types who crave power, but can't attain it in polite society. They're too mentally ill, sexually depraved, socially obtuse, aggressive etc. So, they reinvent themselves as "champions" of the "marginalized" and build their self-esteems around the assumption people like me need their protection and guidance. We don't.

Here this all the time at the hospital I work with with tons of ghanans and Nigerian doctors and nurses. They steer clear of this all in the U.S.

Gender has lost its meaning anyway. One’s gender is no longer a polite way of denoting male or female and has evolved into something completely amorphous.

Let’s still keep biological sexes, needed for medical purposes, do away with gendered pronouns, so that no one gets offended by being misgendered but also no one gets offended by being identified as their sex in appropriate circumstances. Intersex people can be just that or whatever is medically appropriate for that unique individual.

That's not an acceptable compromise.
Gender has not lost its meaning. There are many Republicans AND Democrats AND Independents (OP is 100% wrong!) who believe what "gender" means.
I do however, agree on keeping biological sex -- so here's a compromise.....

Do away with "gender" and keep biological sex for everything -- male, female or intersex (M/F/I) should be the only biological sexes. You are either M, F, or I. No more of the silly "X" thing.

I’ll accept your proposal when you accept mine: eliminate the baggage that goes along with sex and criminalize sex based discrimination, both overt and implicit, everywhere it appears.

Medicine. Rights. Schools. Workplace. And most importantly, churches. No more indoctrinating little girls to submit and devote their lives to breeding. No more teaching boys that they are inherently superior. If you want to pull that crap, you lose your tax status. No more subsidizing regressive behavior that limits both boys and girls.

If it’s separate, it had better be equal and based on a sound determination of necessity that would pass the strict scrutiny test.

Everyone signs up for the selective service. Medical exemptions only. Modern combat looks a lot different than it did 200 years ago.

Men and women get child leave and are expected to take it. Companies that have executive ranks that don’t generally track the sex composition of their workforce will pay a tax off their net with a % that reflects the difference. Same with salary differentials. If the company is “unprofitable”, the Board, shareholders, or executives are liable.

Anything merit based is done blinded. Candidates and applicants get assigned numbers.

Sex crimes are investigated promptly and punished harshly. This includes hate crimes against LGBQT individuals. The gay/trans panic defense is officially banned and treated as an admission of guilt.

Stalking, harassment, domestic violence? Automatic 5 years.

And police will be regularly audited and subject to customer surveys to ensure they are not ignoring cases or letting backlogs grow, and their pay adjusted accordingly. Poor performers are promptly terminated.

That sound good to you? Or were you hoping to keep a sex based system where you’d be sure you’d always come out on top regardless of your merit?

DP. Why are you writing as if this is a negotiation and society has to entertain you? Gender and mentally ill people's ideas are out. Sex and objective fact are back in. No one cares how you feel about that and we don't need to accommodate you on anything. You'll deal because you have no choice. Majority rules.

I think you’ll quickly find that the majority will grow very tired of the religionists shoving [twitter]their[/twitter] mental illness down everyone else’s throats. The world has moved on past the Stone Age, and reasonable people recognize just how toxic religious “freedom” has become to the fabric of our society.

Today the Muslims came for your inclusive kiddie books. Tomorrow they’ll come for your girl’s “immodest” clothing. The Orthodox attack women on buses. The Christians kept a corpse alive for months so they could deliver a doomed baby. Sorry no sale on that one.

I don’t see the First Amendment surviving this century. There’s always a reaction and it’s coming for the graybeards next.

You couldn't be more wrong about the zeitgeist.

You sure? One state after another is making it hard for young men to get their porn, and women certainly aren’t going to help them. Come after their pot and you’re going to have a real problem on your hands.

Brilliant post of the year right here. Soo many mediocre men that just crumbled and decided you know what, I want the guy that makes me feel good, even if he is a felon and a rapist and working overtime to destroy the country and get revenge on the loyalists he threw under the bus in 2020.

America deserves what it gets.

I'm the PP you responded to. I voted for Harris. But I didn't have my head in the sand and I know how to read the room. I know many who voted for Trump -- not bad or misguided people in the least, contrary to what DCUM seams to think.

My vote for Harris was an anti-Trump vote. But I 100% support the EO on gender. And I 100% support the SCOTUS decision for MD - although I do recognize the slippery slope.

We lost all "common sense" and catered to the extreme left.
It went too far.

are you kidding me?

2 billion Muslims, 1.4 billion Catholics, and 1 million Christians in the world disagree with you.
That’s way more than any religious segment in America.

Plus it’s only America and some other western EU countries having this gender affirmation identity issue and projecting it onto minors before, during and after puberty. As if that time period is t bad enough now your school wants to you consider a sex change to tell better!

England and some away countries have already outlawed hormones and surgeries for minors.

Do you even live in DC? Or in a cave?

You must be living in a cave. Study after study has shown that America clings to the juvenile comfort that is religion more than any other “free” nation, and that belief is used to ostracize, bully, drive to suicide, and outright kill gay and trans kids.

We are also toxic AF about what we expect from both boys and girls. Girly boys get bullied all the time. Boyish girls get told to smile and get shut out from jobs and opportunities.

As a nation, we’re a lot closer to the mores and culture of Iran than we are to Britain. (Iran, by the way, condones gender reassignment as a cure for homosexuality. People choose surgery over death). Maybe if gender was no longer a matter of life and death, people wouldn’t fight so hard to change their outward appearance.

Just a thought.

You’re suggesting people pretend to be trans when really they are scared to be female or gay?!

No. But I’m saying it’s a lot easier on you as a trans person in America if you can get medical treatment to “pass”. America is highly resistant to difference and people can’t keep their mouths shut or their fists to themselves.

The answer is to push society to accept wide ranges of gender expression not to convince kids they need to transform their bodies with surgery and hormones!

Well Maryland tried to do that, and the wackjobs objected, and a panel of hair shirt wearing extreme Catholics agreed. A child cannot be forced to learn to treat other people with respect in a public school if their religion says they should stone those people for displeasing their sky fairy.

No, Maryland tried to teach that gender is a “guess” and tried to unconstitutionally contradict parental teachings on the definition of marriage in elementary classrooms.

Gender expression discussions don’t belong in a classroom. Those are adult conversations.

+1. MCPS and dmv private schools teach elementary aged students that gender is fluid and can always change depending on how they feel. They should explore that.

The handout was a 2020 copyright from a DEI & BLM nonprofits. The school district literally selected and paid for this krap and the gender pronoun worksheets. I feel like a [ ] today.

Gds literally tells lower school students to “explore your gender” during these books.

In middle school they tell students to “explore their sexual orientation.”
By then most kids are rolling their eyes but there are a fair amount of kids who don’t get attention at home and they latch on to anything they are told at school.

And the adhd and asd students are prone to taking all of this literally. Oh, I had a bad day, maybe I’m the wrong gender like the book and teacher taught me!

Literally not one single word of this is true. Perhaps you are projecting? I know Sunday schools start indoctrinating girls into their “helpmeet/servant/only good for breeding” roles very young. It must be very hard for you to acknowledge the breadth of difference and experience in this world. Only natural that you’d want to revert back to what is simple and comfortable to you.

Grow up PP. Stop pretending to know anything about my kids school. You are full of lies and no actual information.

It’s absolutely true at GDS.

Georgetown Day School. Check it out yourself. I’m not scanning the syllabus or my kids handouts for you or the weekly emails from lower school days.

My kids aren’t confused by their batty mission and curriculum but we know many who are. Keep it out of schools and at home.

Why do you send your kids there then?

Everyone knows the churches are masters at grooming children. Stop projecting.

At best, your pervert preacher of choice will know that when he’s grooming a boy, he’s going to get into a boy’s pants. And not a girl’s.

We know that’s what’s behind all this. The fundies were having a hard time figuring out which people they could treat like humans and which people they needed to treat like breedstock. They couldn’t tell anymore and it made them very very anxious they might plant the wrong indoctrination in the wrong head.

You continue to ignore that the plaintiffs in the case that inspired OP’s screed were Muslim. Sorry that fact doesnt fit your anti Christian agenda.

+100 Not to mention that most parents who supported this much-needed lawsuit are nonreligious liberals like me. It's such a pathetic cope to pretend that only Christian fundies and ultra right racists want trans activism out of schools and far from kids.

DP. South Africa and Haiti ran themselves into the ground since their independence and revolutions.

But no need to live in America. Hip hop, twerking, nba & nfl, rapper moguls, Diddy, obesity*10, wear your logo designer clothes/hat/bag, have bad manners, I’m a victim USA?

Your values are in FULL display ALL the time.

It seems the schools are their way of giving birth/increasing their numbers.

Since when did GDS become a public school? Next thing you know you’re going to tell me that Gonzaga teaches about Jesus. A private school serving the morals of its paying clientele. Oh the humanity.

MCPS did the same. Hence the lawsuits.
