PP with the anecdote about the neighbor was right. Lots of liberals do simply assume everyone paying more "can afford to pay." |
Because the Rs and Trump promised something better, but now they have shown that they can't deliver; and/or some people still think ACA and Obamacare are two different things. |
well, they certainly won't be able to afford more when their taxes go up from Trump's tax plan, and god forbid they get some serious illness after Trump signs that EO. |
DP. PP is arguing in favor of a plan (Obamacare) that allows health care executives to make millions every year while the lower middle class skips vacations to pay for the less fortunate. A lot of people don't find that plan to be terribly attractive, PP. |
Yes, and that liberal upthread who is arguing that it's fine for OTHER people to have to skip vacations and drive a 17-year-old car in order for people with even less income to get absolutely free care would sing a different tune if he were lower-middle class, scrounging money all year for a one-week vacation, and hoping to replace an old car with none of the current safety features. (That's a risk I'm taking in order to provide free care for people poorer, right? I really need that cross-traffic alert, what with all these big vans in parking lots.) I've found that when I've asked liberals who answer me honestly whether they themselves would be willing to go without vacations, drive an older and less safe car, or have to pull they kids out of private schools in order to see that Medicaid is expanded for the working poor, they have told me....NO. |
This hits middle income red states without Medicaid expansion the hardest and fastest. Aka-- Trump's base. And these are folks who are not going to learn until they duffer. I'm sorry for all the sad stories that are going to start coming out at the beginning of next year. But Trumpkins won't throw in the towel until they, personally suffer. So be it. |
Were you sorry for the sad stories that came out when Obamacare hit, and middle-class people were saying they were forced to buy expensive and unaffordable plans that didn't pay out for anything? |
? You think ACA is the law that allowed insurance execs to make millions? It really wasn't ACA that allowed this. I'm all for curbing CEO pays. You think Trump will go for that? You want something that is good for you but bad for the less fortunate. That's the flip side of your argument. I suppose your next argument would be "why should I have to pay for someone else"? Well, we all do that when we pay taxes. Plus, I guess I could say, "Why should I buy American made products just so that an American have a job"? See how that works? |
maybe I am wrong, but my understanding was that Obamacare capped how much health care executives can made, while Trump and republicans wants to remove the cap |

What we have here are affluent liberals debating how much of a sacrifice the lower-middle class should be willing to make so that the poor can get free medical care. |
This is not nearly as hard to understand as you're making it. If someone has to tighten their belt to pay for the less fortunate, let it be the millionaire health care execs, not the hard-working folks who saved up all year for a vacation. Somehow there's enough money under Obamacare to pay exorbitant salaries but yet money is scarce when it's time to pay for the less fortunate. |
If you're suggesting execs don't make millions under Obamacare, please share your source. |
Yep. This sums it up. |
Obamacare didn't cap the money execs were pulling in.....to the contrary, lobbyists donated big bucks to the Democrats (who passed the ACA) to make sure they weren't touched. The CEO of United Health made almost $18 million last year. http://www.modernhealthcare.com/article/20170421/NEWS/170429946 |
