It’s that time of year- let’s debate comfortable but not too hideous sandals!

If I didn’t have wide feet, I’d try these Teva Infinity sandals. Functional and cute enough.

Don't wear those is you plan walking more than from your car to a venue and then no further. Those things would kill your feet in five seconds.

I have these. They are cute but not that comfortable. It can be hard to arrange the elastic straps so they aren't pulling or pressing in somewhere. They have gotten a little more comfortable with time (mostly as I've figured out how to put them on properly and the straps have relaxed a smidge), and they are an easy shoe to throw in a suitcase if I want a strappy sandal option that is somewhat practical. But they are something I throw on for dinner if we are going to be walking around a bit before or after, or if I need something that will travel from a restaurant to the pool. I would not wear them for hours of walking.

Thanks for the feedback, always wondered about these. I think Teva Hurricanes might be a better compromise for form and function then.

Look into the brand Munro. I bought a pair of their sandals from Nordstom last year and they are my solution to your OP. very comfortable for walking, real soft leather, and cute enough. I dont see my actual shoes anywhere but search around for something.

I also use Birkenstock Gizeh for dresses and also think they look cute enough, especially considering how comfortable they are.

Finally I have sorel heeled sandals and they are so cute and comfortale i can wear them to fancy Board events.

I guess it depends on your taste. Hurricane in all black, with a tan and a good manicure, could be okay, but to me they will always look like a sports sandal. I don't want to wear them out to dinner and don't think they are "cute". The Infinity is actually cute and feels dressier, but is not as comfortable as the Hurricane.

I mean, this is the quandary. I some of the cuter Birkenstocks styles do a better job of bridging this gap, but nothing is perfect.

Birk Gizeh or Mayari if I know I’ll need to walk a lot

When I'm out I tend to wear brands that function like orthotic shoes but don't (to me anyway) look like they come from OrthoFeet. Ecco and Earth both have sandals that work well. Usually I need adjustable straps or sandals that come in narrow sizes.

Lol these are the definition of ortho shoes. These are identical to all the other ugly sandals people keep posting.

OK I'm the PP with the Earth and Ecco recommendations - could you post some suggestions you think meet OP's criteria? I'll give you an honest assessment of the likely comfort level especially if it's a brand I've tried before. I'd rather not die from embarrassment or foot pain. Give us your best shot!

@itsolgavi on Instagram is reviewing shoes for travel in Europe - she just released the sneaker comparisons today, and she has already posted all the individual reviews. She did those super strappy Tevas, I think she liked them a lot. She tests on a treadmill and seems legit. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DW42ojziD3D/?igsh=MXZ0bHV4ZnBsOWY5Yw==

Nothing wrong with wearing orthopedic sandals if that’s what you want but don’t delude yourself into thinking they’re cute. I agree with the sentiment up thread, if your need for comfort is so great or you’re going to be doing a ton of walking, wear some sneakers, or accept you’re going to be in ugly sandals.

This. I wear Birkenstocks for walking in the summer because they are supportive and vaguely hippyish versus geriatric. But realistically, if we are traveling and doing a lot of walking in a city, I wear sneakers. The sweat + grime of bare feet is a big ick for me. Wear comfortable shoes during the day and some cute flat sandals at night when you are walking less. I like the Margaux NY ones posted up thread and they are flat enough they don’t take much space

If you’re in Spain, you can get some sandals here:

Some ugly shoes in this thread!

Anyway, I wore these all over Barcelona. They are made of leather and have the look of a classic sandal, but the footbed is actually molded, making them more supportive than a flat sandal and very comfortable for walking. They are pricey, but the quality is there to match and they can take a beating.

Maybe I’m conditioned to walking longer distances in non-orthopedic footwear from living in NYC, but as long as shoes don’t give me blisters I can manage them in most settings.
