It’s that time of year- let’s debate comfortable but not too hideous sandals!

I honestly have never found attractive and supportive sandals. They just don't exist. If I have to walk, I just wear sneakers.

I like these but they are pretty much indistinguishable from Birkenstocks in the model photo, so if people find Birks too dowdy, these won't satisfy them.

I have to say, for Birkenstock style shoes, having thin feet and a tan goes a long way. Like I notice it on my own feet. I wore Arizonas when I was 9 months pregnant in mid summer, and while no one is going to judge a super pregnant lady of her sandals, I HATED how my feet looked in them, all swollen and pale. I had awful cankles because I was retaining water like nobody's business by the end and there wasn't anything cute about that look.

But the next summer I wore the exact same sandals on vacation and suddenly they looked cute, because my feet had returned to their normal size and I had some color. Night and day.

I would like to like Birkenstocks but they just do not have enough cushion on the foot for me. I also feel like they work well with pants and shorts but only some types of skirts/dresses.

So I have a follow up question on the “why not just wear white sneakers” post. The white sneakers look only works with no visible socks, right? So are people wearing those no-show socks? I have never successfully found a pair that doesn’t scoot down off my foot and end up giving me blisters or stuck in some uncomfortable place under my arch. What am I doing wrong?

Wondering if anyone has any opinions on the 'sneakerina'. It seems sort of expensive to me and I wonder how good the support is:

I mean there are less expensive options. I'm not into it because I just think it's a trendy look that will be super dated more quickly than I like to replace shoes.

However I did buy a pair for my tween and they are very practical for her. Functional enough for recess/gym class but feel like a "cute" shoe so she doesn't have to wear sneakers to school every day.

Zero arch support in these shoes

I only wear socks with my running shoes. With other sneakers, no socks. That's just me. I am entirely fine with others wearing socks if they want to.

I don't wear true "no show" socks with sneakers, for the reason you explain. I buy low profile socks but that cover the whole foot so they don't slip down. Sometimes you can see the top of the sock above the shoe, but only just. For sightseeing I think it's fine.

They also make your feet look like weird blobs in real life.

I wear white Reebok Club 85s with the very short quarter length sock that Bombas makes. They’re not no show but they only come up an inch or two on your ankle.

I think Taos are cute. But I can’t wear the cork-soled sandals (eg Birkenstocks and Taos) because they are too inflexible for me.

May I suggest a classic fisherman sandal which works well on cobblestones and looks a bit less casual? I bought a tan pair from Zara last year that did well in Italy. Here is a super cute pair in blue. https://www.zara.com/us/en/leather-fisherman-sandals-p16615730.html

Feet comfort: if you are walking a lot for a trip, rotate your shoes, get toe stretchers, stretch and massage your ankles, calves and arches in the daily in the AM. As a former ballet dancer, stretching your feet and rotating shoes does a lot to strengthen and protect them.
