It’s that time of year- let’s debate comfortable but not too hideous sandals!

Anyway, I wore these all over Barcelona. They are made of leather and have the look of a classic sandal, but the footbed is actually molded, making them more supportive than a flat sandal and very comfortable for walking. They are pricey, but the quality is there to match and they can take a beating.

Maybe I’m conditioned to walking longer distances in non-orthopedic footwear from living in NYC, but as long as shoes don’t give me blisters I can manage them in most settings.

These don’t look any better than what others have posted. Very basic.

Love these. If I didn't have wide feet I would absolutely order.

Very ugly. Do you stay out of public in those?

Beautiful people can get away with wearing utilitarian footwear. It seems like this is an alien concept to you!

Utilitarian maybe but still ugly and not what op asked for. Nobody is going to stop you from wearing functional shoes.

Some brands just don’t make cute sandals Clarks, Ecco, Earth, SAS, Keen, Taos, can be eliminated right off the bat. For serious walking, no sandals.

These are very cute but I cannot imagine doing the whole European cobblestone sightseeing things in something this flat with no backstrap. I'd totally get these to wear out to dinners and for shorter outings, but not for what OP is describing.

For that I'd do a pair of Birkenstocks or maybe some Tevas, or a pair of sneakers. The thing is, for those long sightseeing days where you are just walking a ton, visiting churches or cathedrals or going through museums, I keep it pretty simple anyway -- maybe a simple short-sleeve dress in a breathable, technical fabric, Birks, a very lightweight crossbody bag so I can always be handsfree, a wide brim hat, and a pair of fantastic sunglasses. I don't view days like that as big fashion moments because you're going to be sweating, standing in lines, maybe riding public transit, etc. Save your cute outfit for later after you go back to the hotel and shower and change and then head out for drinks on the piazza or dinner in some fabulous restaurant or a stroll alone the Seine at twilight.

For OP's situation, I'm usually looking for something that won't show sweat and will look pulled together and easy in photos. So absolutely no Keens or Clarks or whatever, but I also don't need to be wearing my cutest sandals and a coordinated outfit. I'm not an Instagram influencer. I just want to look good enough that I don't cringe at the photos later.

Ok this is admittedly a lot more than OP wanted to pay—but I just ordered a pair of sandals from Bared and am very pleased by the comfort/non hideous ratio. I think they are worth checking out. https://baredfootwear.com/us/collections/sandals
