Are they Democrats? Republicans? |
An Obama judge, a Trump judge, a GWHB judge These are federal judges that have nothing to do with Mayor or the Council. |
She refused to attend, it received a lot of attention in the media, and Liu eventually responded by increasing hate crime prosecutions: https://dcist.com/story/20/01/24/following-criticism-the-u-s-attorney-for-d-c-announces-increase-in-hate-crime-prosecutions/ I don’t know why you’d leave that out and try to convince people that this was “performative BS” unless you actually are pro-crime (and it seems like there’s a crazy activist segment who is these days) and trying to discourage people from demanding any action by the Council. The Council was also outraged and demanded the USAO take action when that car thief was shot several months back (at least for the first half of the year, it was the only crime that Frumin or Parker spoke out about). And even a tiny amount of publicity goes a long way. The whole reason why Graves took got criticized and eventually started to pull back from dropping so many cases is because a anonymous Twitter account with ~1,000 followers (at the time) dug into the numbers and publicized the fact that the USAO was dropping most of their cases. The Council should have a dedicated office looking at this data. Instead, our city has to rely on the charity of one anonymous Twitter user who does this in their free time. Heaven help us if they ever decide to move somewhere else. |
I am not pro crime. I just want MPD and USAO to get off their lazy asses and do their f#cking job. Twitter, Reddit, and this thread of full of stories of MPD not arresting this guy and USAO dropping charges left and right. What does that have to do with the City Council? I just want to to acknowledge just maybe that MPD and USAO are clearly sandbagging DC. It’s clear to anyone who has ever dealt with MPD to report a crime. Answer me this: where do you live and how often are you dealing with MPD? |
The D.C. Judicial Nomination Commission recommends the judges for both the Superior Court and the Court of Appeals. 3 of the 7 members come directly from our elected officials - 2 from the mayor, one from the Council (2 come from the DC Bar, one comes from the District Court and one from the President). https://jnc.dc.gov/page/about-jnc I’m not sure why people want to keep pushing the lie that D.C. has no input here. Just to avoid any accountability and action on the part of our elected officials? I see so many people shout “Taxation without representation!” and then just completely ignore the representation we actually have. Even spreading falsehoods to discourage citizens from using the representation we currently have. |
You’re arguing that the City Council - through delegated powers to some representatives on the JNC - has more power than the POTUS in sending judges to the U.S. Court of Appeals? That’s a new moving of the goalposts! |
Of course you’re surprised, you were just claiming those judges had nothing to do with the Mayor or the Council, when almost half of the members of the JNC are directly appointed by the Council and Mayor. The president appoints one member. If you actually cared, you could check the judges on the courts and the recommendations of the JNC. EVERY SINGLE JUDGE on the DC Court of Appeals was first recommended by the JNC: https://jnc.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/jnc/publication/attachments/2022%20JNC%20Report%20of%20Recomendations_FINAL%20v2.pdf People are completely ignorant about how D.C. is run, and instead of actually educating themselves, they spend all of their time arguing that our elected officials shouldn’t do anything. |
I'm the PP and farthest thing from MAGA. I'm a POC and Democrat. I also think anyone who is remotely okay with this situation is a complete sicko. Is the mass shooter in Maine also just having a mental health crisis? |
I’m actually very smart! And, I moved my family to the suburbs where it’s much safer and less stressful for us all. |
MPD and USAO have plenty of laws to nail this mentally ill pervert. Why didn’t they do their f#cking jobs? |
DC elected officials control 3 of 7 seats on the JNC. What point are you trying to make? Further, does the JNC actually even bind the POTUS? I find that hard to believe. |

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally insufferable groups: the conservatives, who want vigilante summary executions, and the liberals, who offer social services to violent offenders. These are their DCUM stories.
FWIW, I live in the neighborhood and hope Russel gets the help he needs, either in St. E’s or prison, for a long time. |
Have you reported something like that to police? Or anything, for that matter? I was recently grabbed and forcibly kissed (I guess? Face mashed with his face.) by a waiter in a diner. Totally out of nowhere, he wasn’t even my waiter so I hadn’t interacted with him. This was in NYC, but same deal as any other big city. When I got away and called the police, the officer that took the call actually said that he didn’t think I should ruin the guy’s life and recommended that I leave it alone because the guy might’ve been undocumented and maybe I gave off some signal that I welcomed getting kissed by a total stranger. Because I’ve always been “nice” and a wimp, I dropped it. It was a very creepy experience and the way the officer dealt with it certainly was enough to get me to shut up. Hopefully that was a one-off and nobody else has ever tried to report something and been brushed off, but I don’t think so. It’s incredibly difficult to stand up for yourself, especially after a rather traumatic incident, when an authority figure tells you that you’re overreacting. |
DP. I thought about the guy in Maine too because it’s sounds like he actually was having some kind of mental health issues - like hearing voices telling him to do things. But I think the reality is if a white man had attacked the day care workers and sexually assaulted 3 yr olds, they’d throw the book at him. |
Yes, probably. Mentally healthy people don't shoot 30 people or attack day care workers and masturbate in front of children. Recognizing that people are having mental health issues doesn't mean they should be excused for their crimes. Mental health issues this severe require a swift and severe response. |
