Like providing free housing so that the individual has time to "work on their issues." |
Perhaps, but you and everyone here knows that if the Governor of Maine used the exact same language to describe their concern for the shooter’s mental health as the Councilmember did for this guy they’d be run out of government and be forced to resign in a few days. It’s impossible to imagine a scenario where the Maine Governor would say something like that actually. |
Did he really say that?!?! |
Responding to my own post, I see that he did. Didn’t Charles Allen say something similar about the guy who fatally shot the Metro worker? |
Yes, they should get free housing since they can’t work. But that free housing should be in a secure place away from the rest of society. |
It's called permanent psychiatric housing and it shouldn't be located in a residential neighborhood. It's not that difficult. |
He sounds like he’s a Brandywine kind of guy. Matt will welcome him a luxury 1BR and a rebate on an E-bike. |
+1 This, but it's not considered PC to say it aloud. It's extremely sad, but some people suffer from mental health issues to a degree that it's necessary. |
Permanent psychiatric housing on an involuntary basis is not constitutional. When are you going to realize that the judicial system is sandbagging this country? |
This is one of those situations where the law may have been unduly influenced by the culture. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest debuted on screen in 1972. The leading Supreme Court ruling on involuntary civil commitment was in 1976. Which reminds me that Justice Scalia once cited the TV show 24 as a rationale for exceptions to torture. |
| Does anybody know how the daycare workers are doing? |
I understand the tragedy of Relisha Rudd, but I always thought DC should have refurbished DC General into a state of the art involuntary psychiatric hospital for all the mentally ill chronically homeless, rather than tear it down or whatever they did. |
Great book, great movie and there was tons of abuse. HOWEVER.... it's time to look at the abuse which is letting these folks wander the streets, deranged. Where's that book/movie? |
What? Long sentences in jail for committing actual crimes like this guy did are obviously "constitutional." And some of that time can be receiving psychiatric care or whatever in a fully contained treatment facility. This isn't about someone with mental issues just in their head. This is a criminal who can be punished. |
