Can we stop blaming his pedophilic, sexual behavior on mental illness and call it what it really is: a mind in hard core drugs. All this tip toeing around is insane. |

Shocker: mental health system is broken |
+1. Why do folks (generally on the left) shout that mental illness isn't to blame for mass school shooters ("it's just evil!"), but if it's a person who literally whipped out his you know what in front of a bunch of daycare kids after assaulting their teachers, it's preferred to say it's mental illness? |
+1 and I don’t blame them one single bit. Any officer involved would have their name and face plastered all over the Internet, their reputation dragged, and they would be labeled as racist. DC voters wanted this. |
They can be hands on without chokeholds and strangle holds. Those have been banned in many hospitals and hospital security sometimes deal with violent mental breakdown episodes without using them. What is this assumption that choke holds are required? |
The problem is that things can escalate quickly, and police have to make quick assessments of the situation....especially if that individual is tall/strong/large. It's also true even in schools when dealing with large, emotionally/behaviorally involved students who lose control quickly. |
This is no different than in a hospital setting, so I repeat, if hospital security manages this, why can't police? |
For instance, someone high on PCP going bezerk in an ER crowded with vulnerable patients on stretchers everywhere, tons of staff, and yes, hospital security manage this without chokeholds. And before anyone says hospitals can medicate patients, when someone is going off the rails, the best you can do is try to get a needle of haldol in them which still doesn't take effect for awhile and requires multiple doses, and you still can't even get close to the patient to stick them without security getting them under control first (or you risk sticking yourself after the patient). Hospital security do this, it's an excuse that police want to use maneuvers that other security manage just fine without using. |
I wasn’t even talking about chokehold. Any arrest of any kind or any type of policing in general is seen and presented as racist. I don’t think this is a hospitable environment for policing. |
I think it’s all mental illness? And I think drugs are often used as self treatment by those who are mentally ill, so I don’t think you can separate it out. This is an explanation, not an excuse, fwiw. |
| Has this guy been charged yet? Is he still being held? I tried searching but couldn't find any follow up. It's been 5 months, what's happened? |
