It depends on the club team and the high school.

The only B club team that fields solid players is Madlax, in my view. DCE might prove me wrong one day. Especially with the 2021s.

It also depends on the high school. You picked 3 of the best teams in the country. I know for sure Madlax players who might have been on a B team at one point (there is also movement between A and B), started for and did well at Landon. But by and large, the starters are the best players from the best club teams.

If you are talking about schools like St Andrews or Maret, or Sidwell, there are definitely B team players who start on those teams. And if you are talking about public schools, I can pretty much guarantee every B team member on Madlax starts for their high school team.

1. First of all, all the Madlax B teams are terrible. Because being on a B team is terrible because the talent level is dreadful, you play dreadful teams, and nobody is there to watch except random parents.

2. That's a lie perpetuated by Madlax. They put all the kids in the fall in one group, even though everybody knows who is on A and who is on B. But they do that because nobody wants to play on a B team, so they string unsuspecting parents along in the hope that their son may make the A team, when everyone knows that's not going to happen.

3. You are an idiot. There are plenty of Madlax B teams who are nowhere near being able to start for their VA or MD public HS team.

When does Madlax start to separate A and B teams? High school or younger? I don't see an A and B team on the 2024 page for example.

THey have "Captial" and "DMV" levels. All ages except youngest.

Strange, I live in Baltimore, but not uncommon for kids who play for B teams at a top club to be recruited to play in college. In fact, more common than if playing on A team of a second tier team.

Sure. B teams are notorious bastions of top players who college coaches are dying to meet - not.

Logic fails on this one. There are (relatively) few college spots. There are a lot of top club teams all over the DMV, Baltimore, Long Island -- and many other areas. To think that any college coach needs to look at a kid who isn't even among the best players on his own "top" club is, well, delusional. I guess your "top club" coach has the B team parents drinking a LOT of kool aid.

Honestly that's a crock!

While Bullis is a very good team, I wouldn't even rank them as a top program in the area. Sure they have had some recent success in the past 3 years but their program as a whole is suspect. Their JV program is awful and the majority of the kids on their roster who are D1 commits, transferred into the school as sophomores, juniors and even seniors. For a school that also has a LS and MS, there is hardly any home grown talent.

I would put Prep ahead of Bullis as they have been a traditional power for 25 plus years and Gonzaga who has been very good for the past 6 years.

Or would any top club/private school kid be happy to go play at an Ivy that's not a big lax school? Scrolling through the Top 100 recruits' commits, I don't see all the Ivies represented for example.

Absolutely yes. I know many kids who see lax as a way to weight their desire to go to an Ivy. All the Ivies recruit for lax and care about lax. We know lots of kids who have gone to an Ivy as a lax recruit. Each school takes 7-10 recruit each for the womens and mens teams. There are always kids from this area on those rosters.

So is B team on a good club team better than A team on a second-tier club team? For high school & college recruiting? Or does it depend on the kid?

Under your definition, neither Prep or Gonzaga have any home grown talent since they get all of their kids to come from other schools to attend high school. Or, are you saying that recruiting 8th grade kids to come to your school is more preferable than recruiting 9th or 10th grade kids to come to your school? It's probably not a bad idea, since they're more impressionable in 8th grade. Dang, why don't those dummies at Bullis just start working on the kids when they're younger? Great idea!

Bullis has been very good for the past 2 - years. I am not denying that.

4 years ago, not many people outside the DC area would have even considered them to be a "lacrosse power"

Depends on the club, not the kid. A top club has the best recruiting coordinators, connections, name recognition and best resources, which their B team players will also access.

All of the NESCAC schools were represented and many of the head coaches were there. I know three kids who went and got on coaches' radars there (all were very good students) and got offers when the time came July 1 this year. Last year they only had about 80 kids or so (4 teams) so there were lots of opportunities to get to know the coaches' styles. I know I sound like an ad, but after having two kids go through this process I can honestly say it was one of if not the best event either attended.

What were these three kids "offered"?

These are Division III schools, so there are no scholarships.

At that point in time they hadn't applied and the Admissions department hadn't been involved.

So what were they offered?

They are "offered" admission. Admissions will do a "pre-read" involving taking a look at transcripts. If you pass that, you are as good as in. For many of the academic D3 schools, that's priceless.

I know of a few D3 lacrosse recruits at my son's school who are now seniors. They have smiles on their faces whenever I see them. My son and all the other non-recruits all look nervous and stressed out as the pressure of the college application process is building. The peace of mind knowing that you will be admitted to a great school, where you get to play a sport you love, is worth all the time, energy, and money I know these boys and their families put in.

If a kid wants to be recruited by a college and is playing on a club's B team, that is a waste of time. No college coach is recruiting any B team kids.

No it's not. I know many B team kids who have been recruited. Usually to DIII but recruited.

The top girls club in DC, Capital has an A (blue) and B (orange). Girls are routinely recruited from orange.
