I think New Yorkers take the mitigation strategies seriously. That's all this is... it's not as complex as people make it out to be. Vaccines and therapeutics sure but disease control is all about distance to keep from spreading. |
As a new Yorker, I can confirm this. We are being very very careful. Our Mayor (Deblasio) and governor (Cuomo) have been taking this extremely seriously and are in zero hurry to reopen things. Seeing the numbers drop so low makes it feel worth it, even though it's not pleasant |
What is/is not open where you are? Thanks. |
Everything is open in NYC. People Are eating in restaurants inside and outside. And school is opening for hybrid. I'm not sure what the pp is referring to about not being "pleasant". Nothing is shut down. To be honest i think the difference everywhere is masks. Widespread mask wearing is reducing numbers. And I think everything else is luck. I don't really believe other countries did anything drastically different than any state did. And let's not forget how bad NY was in the beginning. Seems like everyone has forgotten that and now they are somehow the model of success. |
Wow. Why can't we open for hybrid in the DMV? |
Really?? "Everything is open"?? Sadly, you are mistaken. Though I wish you were right... Restaurants are NOT open for indoor seating in NYC Gyms are still closed. There is a mandatory 14 day quarantine period if coming from 25 states (not sure if it's enforced though) Cuomo is also not allowing social gatherings at full capacity https://forward.ny.gov/phase-four-industries I agree with you on this: NYC is NOT the model of success. |
+1 Was just there this last weekend for college drop off. Their numbers are very low, but lots of things still closed. Still, I did see some signs that the city is starting to come back to life, although slowly. |
Are you mixing up NYC with somewhere else? We are certainly not fully back up and running, and it seems that the reopening process will be very gradual and cautious. I don't know of a single restaurant that's allowing indoor seating.... |
I have not forgotten, PP! My heart aches for the losses. I'm so glad things are better. We continue to root for NYC. |
Maryland Phase 3!!! Keep up the good work! |

New Yorkes are hell-bent on making Cuomo look like a savior when the real reason for the low rates now is that NYC has reached herd immunity. Tens of thousands were exposed and died so quickly that it's run its course there. DMV area is taking much more drastic measures than NYC. PP is just being biased. |

This. 100%. They got hit first that is all. Now they are done. Other states got hot later and will soon be done too. What was disastrous for New York is the number of deaths. They have more deaths than California Florida and Arizona combined! They are now at herd immunity and honestly I think many New Yorkers are traveling and socializing too. It’s just not spreading there. Anymore. |
