I hope this is ok to add here: https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2020/08/30/new-york-reports-a-record-high-in-coronavirus-tests-taken "Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that 100,022 coronavirus test results were reported in New York yesterday, a record-high for the state. According to the governor, 0.69 percent of those tests were positive for COVID-19, making it 23 straight days with New York producing infection rates below one percent." Record number of tests taken and infection rate under 1%!!! Also, if anyone else has any positive updates I'd love to hear!
WOW. .69% is amazing. Why are they testing 100k people a day though?
Back to school testing. All colleges require it. So they can get low rates.

OH I see. That is interesting. So all that being said, do you think the rates are "artificially low" since they are just doing so many tests? Just curious, though i am still hopeful that this is positive news. Mods please delete if this question doesn't belong here
I think New Yorkers take the mitigation strategies seriously. That's all this is... it's not as complex as people make it out to be. Vaccines and therapeutics sure but disease control is all about distance to keep from spreading.
As a new Yorker, I can confirm this. We are being very very careful. Our Mayor (Deblasio) and governor (Cuomo) have been taking this extremely seriously and are in zero hurry to reopen things. Seeing the numbers drop so low makes it feel worth it, even though it's not pleasant
What is/is not open where you are? Thanks.
Everything is open in NYC. People Are eating in restaurants inside and outside. And school is opening for hybrid. I'm not sure what the pp is referring to about not being "pleasant". Nothing is shut down. To be honest i think the difference everywhere is masks. Widespread mask wearing is reducing numbers. And I think everything else is luck. I don't really believe other countries did anything drastically different than any state did. And let's not forget how bad NY was in the beginning. Seems like everyone has forgotten that and now they are somehow the model of success.
Really?? "Everything is open"?? Sadly, you are mistaken. Though I wish you were right... Restaurants are NOT open for indoor seating in NYC Gyms are still closed. There is a mandatory 14 day quarantine period if coming from 25 states (not sure if it's enforced though) Cuomo is also not allowing social gatherings at full capacity https://forward.ny.gov/phase-four-industries I agree with you on this: NYC is NOT the model of success.
+1 Was just there this last weekend for college drop off. Their numbers are very low, but lots of things still closed. Still, I did see some signs that the city is starting to come back to life, although slowly.
