DP. You're missing the point. While people say crime rates would be lower if all illegal immigrants were deported (which isn't realistic by the way, unless you don't want police to do anything else), the facts don't back that up.

That's just because "we want to lower crime" is a lie. They are xenophobes who are targeting immigrants - some legal some illegal - because they are generally fearful / angry / paranoid. They need to hate *someone* and blame *someone* for all of their problems. Illegal aliens are a big target these days for these angry, old white men. AKA the republicans.

Nobody is apologizing for undocumented people in this country. Like everything else in life, it is a question of priorities. What government services are you prepared to give up or how much higher taxes are you prepared to pay in order for the government to devote resources to rounding up and deporting millions of people who are not causing any trouble? Personally, I'd rather see law enforcement resources going arrest violent citizens than non-violent non-citizens.

True. Headlines usually focus on what happened, though, the victims, rather than the one who did it. From a psychological perspective, that makes sense. No reason to give the criminal any more media attention.

This seems more like that MS-13 murder in Springfield to me. Just vicious, mean, violent and deadly.

There are some missing puzzle pieces in this story I read at first that it was a group of four or five--and then, I read it was fifteen and some were on bikes.
I read that she fell, and then I read that he approached her with the baseball bat.

The only facts that seem to be solid are that he beat her and dumped her in a pond. Awful, awful, awful.

It was a crime of hate. Whether it be hatred for women, muslims, teens, boys on bicycles being in his way, whatever the case. There's no way this is not a hate crime.

I haven't heard that the family considers this attack to be because of her religion. I have only heard that the police don't consider the attack to be a bias crime - more a road rage triggered attack.

I also see some similarities with the brutal crime in Springfield. But in that case, I believe that I read that the teen victim actually willingly met up with the group who brutally assaulted and murdered her and she knew her assailants. I don't know if that is true or not.

I think the sheer brutality of the attacks are what these two cases have in common. But the circumstances surrounding the attacks were quire different.
