OP here, and that's complete bullshit. I first found about this story from my FB feed, being connected to ADAMS - the Islamic Center the victim and others were near - BEFORE the story broke in any media outlets. It was strictly word of mouth at first, and a small fact based on the very little information available at the time - the victim was Muslim, and her assault/abduction was connected to her mosque location at the time. While it may not be an obvious hate crime, the details are relevant and speculation of it being a hate crime were/are not a stretch, precisely because it's so senseless. The fact that anyone could assault and kill a pedestrian as "road rage" is almost a harder concept to grasp. People understand that lots of people are prejudiced against Muslims. That is a fact in America, at this point in time. And it almost makes "sense" for her death to be a hate crime, because... what kind of nutjob kills a teenager girl for walking? Both are horrific, but one narrative is more heard of. |
Sad, but true. I always read the WaPo's comments on FB and so many were out commenting about how Trump has made the haters come out in force and how they can't believe what this country has become under Trump. Whatever you may think of Trump, you can't pin this on him, but people sure were trying to act like it was a Trumpist hating on muslims. |
Laughable. |
There are couple flows in your analysis. This is not a fact that a lot of people are prejudiced against Muslims in US. There are a lot of teenage girls get raped and killed across the US every day. |
Meanwhile, law enforcement resources are being wasted when they have to be used to go after violent non-citizens who shouldn't be here in the first place. |
THIS. Yet all we hear are excuses after excuses. |
How utterly ridiculous. The lengths you apologists will go to are astounding. |
did you even read the post above the one you responded to? |

| Any evidence of a hate crime yet? |
Think for a minute. She was out at 3 am. Groups of teens out at that time of night are often up to no good. But this group was out at that time of night for religious reasons. For good reasons, not bad ones. But go ahead and bash her and the reporting about her murder. |
None that meets a legal definition. |
|
Many of you are sacrificing due process in favor of a political circle jerk.
Some of you are proclaiming this a hate crime with absolutely no evidence. Others just keep bitching and moaning about him being illegal, while ignoring the fact that he still has rights. |
Where did I bash her?? I - and other PPs - are saying there is no way an article would mention anything about the religion of a Christian teen if that teen had been murdered. And everyone knows it, so stop pretending otherwise.

So many crimes happen every day all over the country. Two groups have latched onto this one because they think it supports their worldview: 1) people against illegal immigrants; and 2) people in support of Muslims.
But 40 people are murdered every single day in this country. The details of any one of their cases could be used to build a story to support your own particular cause. But anecdotes don't prove anything. And meanwhile the real horror is that 40 people are murdered every day. |
