DP. You're missing the point.  While people say crime rates would be lower if all illegal immigrants were deported (which isn't realistic by the way, unless you don't want police to do anything else), the facts don't back that up.[/quote]

That's just because "we want to lower crime" is a lie. They are xenophobes who are targeting immigrants - some legal some illegal - because they are generally fearful / angry / paranoid. They need to hate *someone* and blame *someone* for all of their problems. Illegal aliens are a big target these days for these angry, old white men. AKA the republicans.

Nobody is apologizing for undocumented people in this country. Like everything else in life, it is a question of priorities. What government services are you prepared to give up or how much higher taxes are you prepared to pay in order for the government to devote resources to rounding up and deporting millions of people who are not causing any trouble? Personally, I'd rather see law enforcement resources going arrest violent citizens than non-violent non-citizens.
