| Pretty much everything the prior poster said just makes Bullis sound worse. If they have expanded by 50% over six years they are obviously accepting everybody who can pay full tuition (which is what was said about the school already). Fine if that is your business model (with an emphasis on business) but no academically prestigious private schools operate that way. |
SO your argument is; if enrollment is increased then the school is not prestigious. BUT I'll bet Bullis has started an expansion in enrollment due to completion of a 70,000 sq ft building coupled with an increase in applications. I can't think of another private school that has added an academic building only. Prep and St Andrews had a large expansion but those expansions also added athletic space. Most of the other local private schools are not able to expand due to enrollment restrictions/classroom space. Bullis must not have that issue. I'm done with this discussion. Lacrosse thread. | In my view, if your son aspires to play college lacrosse and is a solid student, you really can help him achieve his dreams by investing in a Bullis education. Not mentioned in the previous posts, but it bears emphasis, is the fact that Bullis is the only lacrosse powerhouse which is not an all boys school. I think being in a coed environment tempers some of the issues associated with macho, teenaged, lacrosse playing lax bros. |
Although Bullis did have the lacrosse player who was on video (later disseminated by Twitter by schoolmates who were offended) engaging in a racist rant with multiple uses of the "n word." (To Bullis's credit, the school expelled him. But they aren't in some magical bubble compared with the other schools.) Also, St. Stephen's St. Agnes, which has also had a lot of success in IAC lacrosse in recent years, is also co-Ed. |
| PP: the boy was not expelled. He was given a diploma. |
| The boy was expelled and received his diploma. |
| I've heard that both Bullis and SSSA were able to lure some top-prospect sophomores and juniors from other schools. Any truth to this? I've also heard Episcopal lost a few starters to other schools...which ones? And why the glowing optimism for both Prep and STA. Is it mainly because of the new coaching staffs? What's the scouting report on Dematha and Good Counsel. Seems to me they were a small handful of players away from being contenders again. |
|
Prep has had a lot of very talented players over the past few years but they have not been able to put it together on the field. Prep has talent but we will see for this spring.
St Albans got a transfer Faceoff guy that will get St Albans the ball much more often, but the depth and talent at St Albans is not as great as the other IAC schools. |
| DeMatha and Good Counsel are very good programs just a notch below the top IAC schools. I would not be surprised if one of these schools beat Landon, Prep, or Bullis. |
| If you folks want to talk about the best local lacrosse team, lets talk about the SSSA Girl's team. They have consistently been ranked in the top 25 nationally for almost two decades, occaisionally slipping below 5th but never below 10th. THAT is by far the best record in the entire DC metro area record, these boys' teams be damned. |
Quite the contrary. An all boys environment is known to temper the macho element associated with teen athletes. The same athletes at Gonzaga, for example, participated in a poetry slam, sang in choral arts concerts, and had parts in drama productions. What fosters the "macho" element is oftentimes the presence of the opposite sex. |
This has been Bullis' mode of operation for years. Look at their football team. Any of their star players came in after their sophomore year and most likely re-classified. The school brought in a few lacrosse players from Mount Saint Joseph's from Baltimore and Saint Stephens this year. |
|
Landon's goalie was a transfer from the Heights. St Albans FO guy is a transfer from Sidwell. St Andrew's has a transfer from the Heights. Bullis had 1 transfer from SSSA and 1 from MSJ in Baltimore. Almost all local schools get transfer students.
Not sure why the negative comments about Bullis. |
MSJ? Is there a boarding option at Bullis now? |
There have been numerous posts about Football players who come into Bullis for the fall and leave after football season. Bullis has also taken many Senior transfers or students kicked out of other schools. While other schools are taking some transfers, Bullis is doing it on another level. |
