Now I'm thinking a delay on Thursday because of windchill. I hadn't realized it was going to be 2-3F at 6am.

That's not a dangerous temperature! Yes, it is cold, but not dangerous. Put on a jacket.

PP you replied. Oh, my high schooler gets up at 6am regardless and would be fine going to school on time - she's been sledding and playing with the dog in the snow every day! But I'm trying to see it from MCPS' point of view...

It was the right call. It wasn’t safe this morning based on all the sirens I heard wailing. It wasn’t convenient for us either but better than skidding across the black ice.

If you did it based on sirens, it sounds like you didn't actually try the roads. MoCo cleared them. Driving shouldn't have been a problem.

Sirens can be heard as one is driving,
no? If tree falls in a forest ..

And then you saw the roads were fine. Because they most definitely have been all day.

Forget about the welfare of other people
because I care about ME. This morning my yard looked OKAY therefore it is ok for everyone.

No, the roads were fine. Clearly you didn't drive anywhere today. Once you get a block or two off your residential side street, they were cleared. Can you drive one or two blocks on a road with a bit of snow on it? Yes, yes you can.

NP. Aren’t you wasting your time complaining about a decision made over 24 hours ago? Yes, you are. Are the roads are cleared now? Yes. Now pull out the underwear bunched way up your butt and get over it.

I thinks it’s a delay

After 4pm and no call yet??

Will they not announce and make a call in the morning? Some side streets still haven't been plowed.

And for my situation right now, it's a little different when the school you're paying $2000/mo for is closed, not the public school.

Why is this true? Why can't they create zones and open some, even if others can't?

Ah, you must be new here. It’s too early for me to play drinking games. But this one was on my bingo card. Surprised it took until Wednesday for people to start asking again.

30 years... the stupidity still amazes. Even a north/south zone (in separate zones) would help for all of the magnet whiners. If MOST kids can go to school, they should do it.

That’s not equitable!!!!!!!

And they were cleared before school, too.

All county streets have been plowed. There may still be a layer of snow/ice on them, which is unavoidable without frequent plowing during and immediately after the storm.

What I don’t understand is why my friend saw 15 plow trips by Tuesday afternoon (her son counted, obviously most trips with plow raised as snow was already cleared) while two other friends were not yet plowed out by that point. All three friends live in Rockville. This seems like gross mismanagement or incompetence. I don’t understand this.

Streets are cleared enough to drive on them. Put your big boy/girl pants on, clean off your car, and get your kids to bed early tonight. It will be an on-time start tomorrow.

County vs city vs HOA plowing.

More likely, though, your other two friends are exaggerating. They probably have been plowed, they just don't like that they still see some snow on the road.
