MCPS delayed Thursday?

And for my situation right now, it's a little different when the school you're paying $2000/mo for is closed, not the public school.

Why is this true? Why can't they create zones and open some, even if others can't?

Ah, you must be new here. It’s too early for me to play drinking games. But this one was on my bingo card. Surprised it took until Wednesday for people to start asking again.

30 years... the stupidity still amazes. Even a north/south zone (in separate zones) would help for all of the magnet whiners. If MOST kids can go to school, they should do it.

It.
Will.
Never.
Happen.

I drove by our high school at about 12:45 pm today, and I saw a crew with shovels clearing a layer of snow/ice from the large patch of sidewalk by the main school entrance. Elsewhere in the neighborhood, I saw a similar crew clearing the curb breaks at a crosswalk by a light, where various plows had left about 3 feet of snow/ice.

Meanwhile, our local grocer has a full block expanse of uncleared sidewalk adjacent to their property, which will make it a pain for walkers to reach school. Their entrance and parking lot are immaculate, of course.

Call 311 and report them. They're well beyond the time given to clear sidewalks

none of the entities bolded are responsible for the safety of children.

So because central office staff (ADULTS) are allegedly "responsible for the safety of children", that's why they couldn't work yesterday or today?

don’t be obtuse.

Did you not see I was comparing those organizations to MCPS offices?

Yes which was dumb

Why? Why can't MCPS offices be open to manage the response and get kids back in school ASAP?

Most MCPS offices are not school front offices and can’t do anything to help.

That addresses why schools were closed. It doesn't address why MCPS offices were, since those are filled with adults, not children.

So, your anger is because adults did not go in to the office. Not that your kids missed a day of instruction. Got it!

What do those people do? Why do they get paid during the summer, for example?

We're to believe every local government in the area is open and providing services, but nobody is around to open schools for childcare providers?

To announce they're opening on-time?

Now I'm thinking a delay on Thursday because of windchill. I hadn't realized it was going to be 2-3F at 6am.

It was the right call. It wasn’t safe this morning based on all the sirens I heard wailing. It wasn’t convenient for us either but better than skidding across the black ice.

If you did it based on sirens, it sounds like you didn't actually try the roads. MoCo cleared them. Driving shouldn't have been a problem.

Sirens can be heard as one is driving,
no? If tree falls in a forest ..

And then you saw the roads were fine. Because they most definitely have been all day.

That's not a dangerous temperature! Yes, it is cold, but not dangerous. Put on a jacket.

Forget about the welfare of other people

No, the roads were fine. Clearly you didn't drive anywhere today. Once you get a block or two off your residential side street, they were cleared. Can you drive one or two blocks on a road with a bit of snow on it? Yes, yes you can.
