Lottery (and Waitlist) Swami 2019

Hello Swami!

We must have pulled a much better number than last year, as we are in the double digits! PK4 waitlist:

Inspired Teaching #25
Lee Montessori #20
Creative Minds #14
Mundo Verde 8th st - Match

Any chance of movement, or should we count ourselves lucky with the MV match?

DC Bilingual PCS Waitlisted - #4
Breakthrough Montessori PCS - Petworth Matched

Swami do you think that we have a chance at CC or DCB?

Not Swami, but I am familiar with both schools. You will probably get into DCB before Cap City so you have them ranked correctly in order to maintain both options. You could possibly get into Cap City, but it's longer odds given the amount of siblings.

Thank you for your response. It seems like we had a good number and I am regretting that I put Breakthrough so high and Petworth at that, we need Takoma. We may have gotten a good number for our 4th Mundo Verde and 5th WYY. We are at Bridges currently.

I am thrilled with our lottery results! I thank this forum for helping me understand how the system works and directing me towards the right resources to make my lists!

have PK3 and PK4 kids and am trying to decide between School-Within-School and Shining Stars Montessori.

We have a PK3 spot SWS with #3 on PK4 waiting list and a PK4 spot at SSM and #1 on waiting list for PK3.

I'm leaning towards SWS because its better for our work commute but in terms of day-to-day living with three young kids I'm wondering if Brookland is better. H Street/Capitol Hill have good access to the museums and restaurants but I'm not sure.

Any thoughts would be appreciated including if rolling the dice on SWS may be a losing bet. My girls are really close and I would strongly prefer they were at the same school. Thank you!!

I have no advice but wow you got a good master number. I am a little jealous (waitlisted 427 at SWS/matched with my number 10 option and pretty much no chance of getting into anything else). Congrats, though.

Oh, I did think of one thing-I have always found school/care located closer to home works out better than those located near work, in general.

We started at #3 on the SWS PK4 list last year and never got in. But you likely have a better draw with the sibling attending status-- we didn't, so got bumped back a few times. Never got higher than #2.

SWS is a far better school than SSMA.

Enroll the PK4 at SSMA to preserve the option and enroll the Pk3 at SWS.

If you don't get the Pk4 in at SWS this year, you may well get them in next.

One year in different schools would be no fun, but I would not give up SWS for the turmoil at SSMA.

Thank you for the feedback. That's really helpful. We have about a month to find a place and sign a lease so the hunt is on. I thought Brookland might be a more family friendly and slightly more affordable area but seems like I should just find something close to the school. That way I could walk to work and to school and we could table having to move for the next 5 years.

I actually think the SWS neighborhood is more family friendly than Brookland. Pretty much every single person living there seems to have 1-2 kids under 5 and a dog! It is a little bit more expensive than Brookland, but since school zone doesn't matter to you, look for close-in in the Miner zone; you could be as close as 3 blocks from SWS and not paying any school IB premium.

Last prediction before bed tonight-- appreciate your commuting willingness, and Swami thinks commitment to language? And random "HRCS/HRCWDCPS"

You will be rewarded by the Stokes match not yet lighting, and get into East End French in quick order, and then Spanish East End within a few weeks. You will reevaluate, run the numbers and the commute and stay in daycare/preschool/nanny for another year

Pretty close! One got East End French; one got East End Spanish. I don't think we'll stick to nanny for another year though. Any chance for our waitlisted schools?
