| Wow, I can't believe all the tattoo haters. I mostly find them attractive on both men and women but of course it depends on how they're done and how they fit with the overall look of the person that has them. |
I find that with those I know, it doesn't even matter at some point. The tattoo, or clothing, or whatever, is just part of the person. What is inside is what counts. Even with lovers, I've had a few ages ago that had some really silly tattoos and didn't laser them off. They were still sweet guys. I find it interesting that people can dress perfectly, sport no body art, etc, and be looked upon as model citizens, and do all sorts of hateful things and most people will never know unless the get caught. But dress sloppy, or have a tattoo, oooo, you're a trashy criminal. It's silly. I noticed quite a few tattoos on the food bank volunteer line. And on a girl that was feeding hungry kids in the park as part of an outreach program. Preschool teachers and ymca volunteers. I find these young people to be of a higher standard, body art and all, than any of you holier-than-thou judgemental people. |
NP. See, there's the difference for me. (FWIW, I think some tattoos are works of art and am a huge fan of these, even following some artists on Instagram. I have four.) Tattoos that are done when the people getting them are drunk are (1) inevitably bad choices and (2) not done at reputable shops with good artists, since those shops won't work on anyone who's incapacitated. You can generally tell if tattoos are picked off of a wall, or otherwise done impulsively, and I'm not a fan of those at all. Tattoos that are well-thought-through and artistically-done are another matter entirely. |
| No tattoos. They are trashy. |
Tattoo shops dont tattoo drunk people. You have to sign a consent form and if you are very "drunk" they turn you away. GTFO. |
I was almost passed out drunk. this was in miami. |

The problem with tattoos is that they are so permanent. It's not fashion; it's more a lifestyle choice. Other adornment like piercings or haircolors shows self expression as well, but they are easily changed. (Okay, maybe those horrible disc earring things need plastic surgery to fix the lobe). But a tattoo makes me think the person is shortsighted. It might be a gorgeous tattoo, but I still question the person's judgment.
|
Maybe tattoo took me until age 45 to get done, took five straight hours, didn't feel very good, and was well thought out for years. Nothing shortsighted there. I'm happy with it being on my old wrinkled body. Why do you care? |
My tattoo. Ugh, my phone. My phone is definitely shortsighted.
|
Oh no, but you are definitely not trashy. No way. LOL. |
Who cares? If I'm fine with it who are you to mind? |
Seriously. I question people who read 50 shades of grey, or love crappy movies, and listen to bland music. But you know what, I decided to let it go. It's your choice and while it does affect the art community, there's nothing I can do except just make my art and support real literature and music. Thing is, you can hide your crappy taste in music. Tattoos aren't always hidden. So going back to my above argument about judging superficial, external parts of people. It's uncalled for and contributes to the division of our communities. |
That is right: as a Christian you do not disdain from associating with people, you treat them with dignity and respect, but you do not go get drunk or inject heroin along with the sinners in associating with them. You don't get tattoos, and you do not have sex with prostitutes then say "Oh what a good Christian I am, sinning with the sinners and associating with them just like Jesus did." Jesus did not partake of their sins but was there to tell them to repent and stop sinning. There is a huge difference between reaching out to sinners and participating in the sins of those sinners. Yes, Jesus did associate with drunks, losers, whores, and people with tattoos but Jesus did not have tattoos. He would not have because it is forbidden:

| I agree with the above post. I love my body so much that I can't imagine do something like that intentionally. I think most of people who do get tattoo have either self esteem or other body issues. |
Historically, this is one of those commandments that were made to separate "us" from "them." Other cultures tattooed and scarred their skin, and pierced their ears, so we didn't. They didn't circumcise their boys, so we did. Just so we could tell our tribe from others. Don't really have to do that any more.
