How many tattoos do you have? Do you think tattoos look sleazy on women?

I don't hate them or find them sinful - I just honestly don't get the point.

I don't get the point of nail polish or earrings or mascara designer handbags or a myriad of other things. Most decorative body stuff and fashion is pretty pointless. People just like the way it looks or feels, and that is subjective.

That's a reach.

So now people who get tattoos are trashy and have self-esteem and/or body issues? Maybe they just like tattoos.

I think of tattoos as grafitti on the human body, both trash up the look of the place.

NP here. Every person I know with tattoos does have issues... ranging from insecurity to severe depression and anxiety. But I personally love tattoos, just can't make that commitment. (I also ahve anxiety tho!)

The people who got them in college were doing it because it was trendy-they weren't deeply meaningful.

I do know some people with tattoos who have problems with anxiety, depression, addiction recovery, etc. But most of the people I know who have tattoos are either academics or artists (or academics in an artistic field). Just like people I know who don't have tattoos.

I have one and want to get it removed.

I don't think it's a "fad." Haven't people been getting tattoos for hundreds of years?

Yes they have been aroung a longggg time by other civilizations, i have no idea why some people think this is s new fad.

I find that with those I know, it doesn't even matter at some point. The tattoo, or clothing, or whatever, is just part of the person. What is inside is what counts. Even with lovers, I've had a few ages ago that had some really silly tattoos and didn't laser them off. They were still sweet guys.
I find it interesting that people can dress perfectly, sport no body art, etc, and be looked upon as model citizens, and do all sorts of hateful things and most people will never know unless the get caught. But dress sloppy, or have a tattoo, oooo, you're a trashy criminal. It's silly.
I noticed quite a few tattoos on the food bank volunteer line. And on a girl that was feeding hungry kids in the park as part of an outreach program. Preschool teachers and ymca volunteers. I find these young people to be of a higher standard, body art and all, than any of you holier-than-thou judgemental people.

You are far too sensible. Thanks for chiming in. Sometimes the "trashy!!" talk is overwhelming.

A tattoo says to me that you are a person lacking in wisdom and good judgment. Tattoos are associated with the criminal class, with prostitutes, drug addicts, and other undesirables.

That you would want to associate with the filth of society speaks to me what is inside your heart, that you are foolish and untrustworthy.

Unless you cover them up you will not get hired, will not work for me. If by some chance you are working for me, I will see to it you do not participate in any task that requires morality such as handling large sums of money, for I assume you to be a criminal.

Tramp Stamp is an appropriate term. Don't brand yourself as a piece of garbage.

It means in my heart that I am a Christian and I don't disdain associating with anyone. Jesus associated with "those people" and he was pretty clear that whatever you do to the least of His brothers, that you do unto Him.

That is right: as a Christian you do not disdain from associating with people, you treat them with dignity and respect, but you do not go get drunk or inject heroin along with the sinners in associating with them. You don't get tattoos, and you do not have sex with prostitutes then say "Oh what a good Christian I am, sinning with the sinners and associating with them just like Jesus did." Jesus did not partake of their sins but was there to tell them to repent and stop sinning.

There is a huge difference between reaching out to sinners and participating in the sins of those sinners. Yes, Jesus did associate with drunks, losers, whores, and people with tattoos but Jesus did not have tattoos. He would not have because it is forbidden:

Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:28

Historically, this is one of those commandments that were made to separate "us" from "them." Other cultures tattooed and scarred their skin, and pierced their ears, so we didn't. They didn't circumcise their boys, so we did. Just so we could tell our tribe from others. Don't really have to do that any more.

You are right: Christians are commanded to be separate from the world and not partake in their evildoing.

And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

2 Corinthisans 6:16

Tattoos make a person look unclean and nasty, an indication that the person with the tattoo(s) is merely expressing what is inside their soul

Because as recently as thirty years ago, military vets and "toughs," as my dad would say, were the only regular American people who got tattoos. Yes, tattoos have very long tribal traditions in various places around the world, but not so much for middle class Americans. You know that. You're playing dumb.

I have two and love them. They are very meaningful to me. Most people that have tattoos have meaning behind them. I'm 38 and don't regret them. It is interesting to see all of the closed minded people on here.

They don't have to be meaningful. If you find them beautiful or if they make you happy, then it doesn't matter what other people think.

This isn't my ink, but I find them beautiful:
