Out too- the farmers go after George (an immigrant) who stole something. Nope, only those county approved books are allowed and your kids don’t get the classroom books anymore.

Oh no, not that. And George is a freaking monkey not an immigrant.

Jesus, I can’t believe the bottom of barrel we get for teachers.

Speaking of bottom of the barrel, you should see the parents. Very easily offended by everything.

I’m willing to guess they know the difference between a cartoon monkey and an immigrant.

Don't muddy the waters with facts, logic and reason.
Or how about don’t change the subject. Just go ahead and admit you are a culture warrior.

How is it changing the subject to acknowledge that as schools keep trying to teach about gender and sexuality issues, our international test scores in math and reading and science have fallen plummeted? There are only so many hours in the school day for instruction.

OP here - agree. I don’t care if a word problem says Dan and Matt have $50 to spend on gas to get them to Philly for their nephews bar mitzvah. It costs $6 a gallon. How much will it cost to get there?

That doesn’t require a sexuality discussion. It’s just what you might see in society. It’s a fact.

Math teacher here. I posted on the page before this. I don’t care about that either and am fine with your example. Where I have an issue is when people come into my room with pressure to hang up posters for pride month (when it’s not even June because we don’t have school in June) and to support other causes and then insinuate I’m MAGA or R because I don’t allow any hanging up of anything other than my own posters in my room. Like my content posters. This is what is happening in schools today.

Agree.

All those flags and decorations passed around are uncomfortable for everyone- most teachers, parents and students. No need for that at school.

In Wash DC the large international population really finds this all stupid and unnecessary. And the math expectations too low. So two way swing in the misguided USA schools.
Those are to two comments we always hear at IMF, world bank, IfC, the neighborhood and soccer games.

The rest of the civilized world isn’t as religious as we are. In America, we’re not too far off from the time where we burned uppity women and picnicked at the feet of black men lynched by preachers wearing sheets.

are you kidding me?

2 billion Muslims, 1.4 billion Catholics, and 1 million Christians in the world disagree with you.
That’s way more than any religious segment in America.

Plus it’s only America and some other western EU countries having this gender affirmation identity issue and projecting it onto minors before, during and after puberty. As if that time period is t bad enough now your school wants to you consider a sex change to tell better!

England and some away countries have already outlawed hormones and surgeries for minors.

Do you even live in DC? Or in a cave?

You must be living in a cave. Study after study has shown that America clings to the juvenile comfort that is religion more than any other “free” nation, and that belief is used to ostracize, bully, drive to suicide, and outright kill gay and trans kids.

We are also toxic AF about what we expect from both boys and girls. Girly boys get bullied all the time. Boyish girls get told to smile and get shut out from jobs and opportunities.

As a nation, we’re a lot closer to the mores and culture of Iran than we are to Britain. (Iran, by the way, condones gender reassignment as a cure for homosexuality. People choose surgery over death). Maybe if gender was no longer a matter of life and death, people wouldn’t fight so hard to change their outward appearance.

Just a thought.

You’re suggesting people pretend to be trans when really they are scared to be female or gay?!

No. But I’m saying it’s a lot easier on you as a trans person in America if you can get medical treatment to “pass”. America is highly resistant to difference and people can’t keep their mouths shut or their fists to themselves.

The answer is to push society to accept wide ranges of gender expression not to convince kids they need to transform their bodies with surgery and hormones!

Well Maryland tried to do that, and the wackjobs objected, and a panel of hair shirt wearing extreme Catholics agreed. A child cannot be forced to learn to treat other people with respect in a public school if their religion says they should stone those people for displeasing their sky fairy.

What do you mean Maryland tried to do that? This goes far beyond “gender expression”.

Most of us parents who now have teens and younger kids and see what’s going on…we all grew up in the 80s/90s. We are good with all different types of gender expression from what we saw on TV. Guys wearing dresses, wearing makeup, being androgynous? Yep - after seeing Bowie, Boy George and countless others on MTv with that style…we have no problem with guys wearing feminine styles. Same for girls wearing masculine styles.

But those people never said they were girls. They never denied being men.

And nobody had issue with their gender expression.

Now - it’s making confused, vulnerable kids actually think they are the opposite gender. They can’t just present themself in the style of the opposite gender. It’s now filling their brains with that they really are the opposite gender. Putting them on hormones and doing irreparable harm to their bodies. It is filling the heads of vulnerable girls with such damaging thoughts.

This goes way beyond gender expression.

Any parent can order those books off Amazon and read them to their four year old.

The school doesn’t have the ride to override the parents.

Again - why is this even an issue to begin with? There’s a reason teachers don’t read books about periods, circulations, breast enhancements, anal cancer to 2nd graders. It just seems like a total lack of common sense.

Frankly I don’t care much about the T when it comes to all the issues you mention. No trans woman is going to rape a woman. Or rather the chances of that are far less than rape in general. People are making a big deal of something so minor. I am a Dem and I have two daughters. I am not worried at all about a trans woman competing against them. It is so so unlikely.

A compromise: allow our language to evolve to do away with gendered pronouns. Many languages don’t have gendered pronouns: Finnish, Estonian, Hungaria, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Bengali, Persian, and Armenian, etc.

Gender has lost its meaning anyway. One’s gender is no longer a polite way of denoting male or female and has evolved into something completely amorphous.

Let’s still keep biological sexes, needed for medical purposes, do away with gendered pronouns, so that no one gets offended by being misgendered but also no one gets offended by being identified as their sex in appropriate circumstances. Intersex people can be just that or whatever is medically appropriate for that unique individual.

Because a) they believe being LBGTQ is a choice on some level b) they’re afraid of their kids being LGBTQ and so they want all references removed out of fear their child will be “convinced.”

And it’s their right to believe that. So leave other parents alone. Raise your kids the way you want but you don’t get to force your beliefs on other people’s kids at taxpayer funded schools without an opt out.

Key word there— belief.

One day someone will sue their school district because they smoke and the health teacher dared to say smoking causes cancer and little Larla is traumatized and went home crying begging for her parents to stop smoking. And they don’t believe smoking always causes cancer because they go to the gym and feel just fine and nana and George Burns smoked and lived until 100.

No. Religions don't take much of a stance on smoking or the origins of cancer. Culturally, smoking has been more or less common worldwide. It's not the same. I know OP doesnt want to talk about religion. But it's impossible not to, when religion has shaped our culture for thousands of years.

Religion has shaped our country for the worse. Christians have caused untold amounts of suffering throughout the entire existence of the religion. Religion is at the root of every societal injustice in out history. From slavery to genocide of the indigenous populations to woman’s suffrage there were the christian’s trying to stand in the way. Just leave us alone already.
I wouldn't want my children taught lgbtq+ indoctrination either. And it has nothing to do with religion.

OP here. I have known many gay people in my life. I have never known one who wanted to indoctrinate me.

No one is cleaning the Maryland teachers were gay! That doesn’t mean indoctrination wasn’t taking place in the school, it absolutely was.

Then who was? The other kids? The guidance counselor? The principal? Music teacher? PE teacher?

The teachers were indoctrinating but they aren’t gay. Just liberal.

There goes the projection again. It’s all the religious conservatives know. What normal human would actually believe the nonsense spewed by most religions unless they were indoctrinated hard and young? Indoctrination is all they have when they’re certainly not winning on intelligence and reason.

A teacher telling a child that a person’s sex is a guess is quasi religious nonsense that has no place in the classroom.

Gender is a guess. And unless you have a DNA panel, sex is too. Sorry if that doesn’t jive with your world view, your God was a lot more complex a creator than you give him credit for.

Keep telling yourself that. But keep your unscientific opinion out of schools.

Friend, I don’t know what to tell you. But I can say humanity has come a long way since some guys wearing dresses wrote up what a flaming bush told them.

OP, when you ask where the backlash is coming from, see example A above.

You mean the people who think their religious beliefs belong as government rules and laws to dictate everyone else's life? F them.

Exactly.

No, what you are hearing is that teachers were not reinforcing Stone Age fairy tale nonsense. In America, marriage is NOT exclusively between man and a woman. In America, we recognize that trans people exist, because God made them. We recognize that gender is a made up concept that varies over place and time.

Your “facts” are actually opinions, and you’re not entitled to have them validated at every step of your life journey in America. Pray on it.

That's not an acceptable compromise.
Gender has not lost its meaning. There are many Republicans AND Democrats AND Independents (OP is 100% wrong!) who believe what "gender" means.
I do however, agree on keeping biological sex -- so here's a compromise.....

Do away with "gender" and keep biological sex for everything -- male, female or intersex (M/F/I) should be the only biological sexes. You are either M, F, or I. No more of the silly "X" thing.

What are you even talking about. We were the generation that also had Kate Moss as our standard of beauty. An actual heroin junkie. To replaced by the Bush era blonde bimbette in 5 inch heels. With a toxic culture to boot.

We came of age when Matthew Sheperd was slaugtered. We grew up and killed Roe v Wade.

Go back with a critical eye. Our culture was garbage.

I admire you stalwart, patient people debating with the mentally ill sexual deviants and deviancy advocates in this thread. I just vote against the LGBTQRSTUV agenda every chance I get and root them on as they stupidly and arrogantly take cases to SCOTUS that anyone sane can see they will lose. There's no reasoning with people whose entire reason for existing is to legitimize the illegitimate whims of sexually deviant, fetish-driven men--the most dangerous and predatory demographic in every society.

Europeans absolutely think America’s race-focus and manufactured gender issues in schools are misguided and ridiculous. Sub Saharan Africans think that too. So does any Black person in London where I’m originally from. They would never move here for this very issue.

So people who never lived in America have opinions about the experiences of people who lived in America. I mean, maybe ask your black South African friends if they think Americans have overreacted.

DP. I have a Black friend originally from Africa living in the US and she told me that a lot of people would approach her and/or try to befriend her, assuming because she is Black, she would automatically be interested in DEI related events and causes. She always politely declined saying she was too busy or whatever excuse. In truth, the cause didn't speak to her lived experiences. She said then she was basically shunned by those groups.

The answer is no. No compromise. No letting malicious, covetous men and their handmaids continue to endanger women and groom children. No pretending we don't know exactly what gender you are under that ugly wig and hooker wear. Just no. After a 15-year descent into madness, society is done accommodating people who should've been locked up in asylums long ago.
