I believe a few movies have been made about these exact issues. Not new at all. In fact, relatively recent. Frank Sinatra faced these issues for decades. |
You may be missing the point here. The more recent "white immigrants" faced their own discrimination for many decades, whether religious based (Catholic) or nationality (Irish, Italians). One might argue that they tend to be less sympathetic to racism faced by African Americans or Hispanic Americans. Several Justices fit this mold perfectly. |
Most WASPS I know are Democrats or former Republicans. Almost none are MAGA types. |
My large, eastern-European family is all blue. |
My grandparents didn't consider Italians white, and avoided all interactions with any recent immigrants including the Irish and Germans. When I married a guy with Italian heritage, my grandmother didn't speak to me for a year, and this was in the 1990s! |
What simply is lacking here is knowledge of basic American history, including immigration. The idea that all immigrants in the early 20C or 19C were legal is silly on its face. Latter of course does not mean we can ignore the flood of illegals at the border. |
This. If the democrats were running on closing the border and funding Medicare for all, while leaving Title IX alone, they’d have a much easier time in November. |
Bingo |
Gentile or Jew? There is a HUGE difference in Ashkenazi Americans with ancestors who temporarily were in Eastern Europe vs Slavic Americans |
+1 |
For whatever reason trailer park whites in Alabama aren't considered WASPs. The term is mainly used in the Northeast where European ethnic identities are stronger and where WASPs do mostly fit the higher class socioeconomic profile. |
DP but what’s the difference? I know both and they both trend Republican |
While that is your anecdata, actual data shows the former as pretty staunchly Democratic while the latter is very maga |
Racist at the core. |
Temporarily in Europe? |
