Exactly. And Frisch needs to be called out in the strongest possible terms for pushing policies to benefit his spouse and friends rather than FCPS students. He is the one who centered himself when it came to policy making and certainly doesn't deserve to be rewarded for it. |
+1 A R could not have gotten elected dog catcher in 2019 in Fairfax county. You had to have a pulse and a D next to your name - that was about it. - moderate D who eager voted straight D for any open office in 2019 out of sheer Trump hatred (yes I realize they're entirely unrelated). |
Come next year I don't necessarily want the Rs setting the agenda on the FCPS School Board but I sure as hell don't want another all-D Board. This has led to all sorts of problems, including group think and a real unwillingness to challenge each other's worst impulses for fear of being seen as disloyal. They let each other get away with all sorts of nonsense, and we're all the worse for it. |
Really? I feel like this entire thread has been unusually (for dcum) focused on his actions, and nothing to do with his personal life. What post do you think is "just wrong"? I have major issues with Frisch based on the fact that he was clearly NOT devoted to the FCPS board because he is trying to give it up, abandoning the families in Providence district and leaving them with no representation for the next 2 years, while he climbs politically. This is supposed to be about my children's' education, not his political stepladder. This is a policy-related concern. It's nothing personal. I'm sure Karl Frisch is a great guy to grab a beer with. |
| He’s been a disaster on school policies for three years so there’s no reason to think he’d be any better if given a bigger platform. |
I respect you for telling it like it is. I disagree with this approach completely, but it's refreshing to hear someone admit that they voted for [insert any political hack] for school board just because they were endorsed by the Democrats ... out of "sheer Trump hatred." This is why we left FCPS and now laugh at what a disaster it's becoming. When you let your irrational political feelings dictate who runs your $3B+ school district that's supposed to be focused on education and not politics, you get ... well, you get FCPS. Enjoy. |
+1. Despite all the talk about "voting them out," I predict the exact same outcome in 2023: Solid Democratic-endorsed school board again, with a whole new cast of loony characters. You get what you vote for when blindly voting the party line. I also left FCPS, too. |
I think you have to appeal to people's better instincts and let them learn from their mistakes. Your fatalism may work out for you now that you're sending your kid to O'Connell or whatever, but others won't be so lucky if we get another round of idiots and hypocrites like Frisch, Tholen, Cohen, Omeish, Meren, etc. |
Good luck! lol |
NP. I don't see an R getting voted in. But we should be able to get some better Ds or non-politicals candidates! How we do go about convincing the D party to endorse better candidates? Or (crazy idea) taking the political endorsements out of our school board elections altogether?? It's like we don't hold primaries for each party because this isn't supposed to be a partisan election... But the lack of primaries means the party insiders can just pick whoever they want to "endorse" without any public input ... And since that party endorsement is all it takes to win, the result is even more partisan, not less. How do we fix that?? |
You can’t fix it. Left wing woke whackos will continue to run FCPS into the ground. Just get out and save your own children. |
As bad as some of the current School Board members are, and most are terrible, some of the left-wing crazies waiting in the wings are even worse. |

Frisch is getting pilloried by other Democrats for sending out a raft of school-related announcements to local residents on his official FCPS account in the weeks leading up to this firehouse primary after having been virtually incommunicado for many months.
Maybe he’s finally exhausted everyone’s patience and the political career of this unprincipled hack is about to come to an end. One can only hope. |
| I can’t stand Karl for a whole host of reasons. I just hope everyone on this thread goes and votes on Oct 8 (or early votes this week at the FCDC headquarters near the big post office next to Mosaic). If we don’t get out and vote on a busy holiday weekend (and get 10 friends to do the same), we’re going to get stuck with more of Karl. |
