It will be between Karl and Jeff Hoffman unless a someone primaries Karl.

He was "primaried" in 2019 in that another, superior candidate sought the Democratic endorsement. But she hadn't kissed as much ass as Karl in local political circles, so he got the FCDC endorsement.

WOuld love for someone to primary Karl Frisch. Here's a little tidbit about who Jeff Hoffman is as a person... which doesn't provide much of an alternative to Frisch: https://wjla.com/newsletter/fairfax-county-school-board-candidates-drops-out-youtube-national-anthem-controvery-harry-jackson-stephanie-lundquist-arora-republican-gop-november-election-gov-glenn-youngkin Hint: Hoffman was one of the people who laughed at an autistic kid during a school board meeting. Quality people.

I'm sure you'll respond by bashing me but:

1. Wasn't the "autistic kid" the son of a School Board member, and a legal adult?

2. Was it noted for the audience in advance that the "kid" (young man) was autistic?

3. Have you ever heard of nervous laughter?

4. Did Hoffman apologize in any way later?

Hoffman may have other flaws that make him an unsuitable candidate, but there's something a bit off-putting about a Democratic School Board member putting her autistic son out there to play a song in public and then having all the Democrats capitalize on it when third parties found his vocals to be something less than "American Idol" quality? I get that it may have taken a lot of courage for the "kid" to perform, although I understand he performs in other venues, but it's certainly played out in a very self-serving way for the Ds.

Well, Mr. Hoffman's number one issue seems to be making sure that everyone has full authority to mis-gender kids if they want to. So, there's that.

If you live in Providence and are zoned for Marshall, be aware that the new Dunn Loring ES that Karl championed is not needed and that, if it ever opens, will require massive, unnecessary boundary changes involving multiple schools in the Marshall pyramid (at a minimum, Freedom Hill, Stenwood, and Shrevewood). He's also done nothing to plan ahead for future enrollment growth in Marshall, even though FCPS's longer-term projections indicate that Marshall could pick up more kids in the coming years than any other FCPS high school due to the construction in Tysons.

If you live in Providence and are zoned for Oakton, be aware that Frisch took money that had been earmarked for a new school in Fairfax/Oakton, and re-routed it to Dunn Loring to save Blake Lane Park. Even if you don't think Fairfax/Oakton needs a new school now, or that a new school shouldn't have been built at Blake Lane, that money is now gone and your pyramid won't be getting it back any time soon. Meanwhile, Frisch let FCPS move ahead with plans to expand Mosaic ES (formerly Mosby Woods ES) to roughly 1050 seats, which is huge for an elementary school.

If you live in Providence and are zoned for McLean, be aware that Frisch stood by idly as Elaine Tholen pushed through a limited, one-sided boundary change with Langley that still leaves McLean severely overcrowded, and has done nothing to help McLean get the overdue permanent addition that it has needed for a decade.

If your main concern is having a School Board member who advocates for LBGTQ kids, or protects the rights of FCPS librarians to stock their library shelves with whatever books they deem appropriate for readers, Karl is certainly your guy. And if the GOP endorses someone whose agenda is to defund the public schools in favor of vouchers, and you believe in public education, he may be your candidate as well. But when it comes to the oversight of basic operational and planning decisions, there have been few School Board members who have done so much harm and so little good in recent memory as Karl Frisch.

NP. Thank you for this post, which is more informative than the rest of the entire thread for a voter like me, who has very recently started paying attention to school board elections since my oldest is only 2.

If that's truly his top priority, then I hope he's written off. However, if he ends up challenging Frisch, with all due respect, I hope people listen to what he says leading up to the election to assess his priorities.

WOW. Did you really write at? It’s never okay to laugh at ANYONE that is performing. Never. You are a bad person.

You're welcome.

Apparently Harry Jackson liked the post, too, since he borrowed from it for his comments tonight before the School Board on the draft CIP [I am not Harry Jackson.]

Nope full dem ticket only forever and ever

There is not one republican in the US worth voting for in any race from President to the lowest office of lowest school board etc. NEVER AGAIN Ever...

Did you not see yesterday the Missouri Legislature's first order of new business how women dress????? Oh for god's sake, ladies wake the hell up. And yes this trickles down to schools these republicans will book ban they will push school choice they will ruin it all with Christian Nationalism. And yes it trickles down to this race as well.

There are other candidates. It’s not dem or repub. seeking an independent candidate now.

I will hold my nose and vote for him because I DO care about those things. I'm still mad at him about Blake Lane, and I'd love for someone else to run, but voting R is not going to bring any money or new school to my pyramid either.

Hmm…$20,000 to remove trees at Blake Lane park to combat lantern flies. Would this money need to be spent if Karl Frisch had not stepped in to prevent the construction of a much needed elementary school at Blake Lane park?

Fricsh and Palchik are all about keeping the Friends of Blake Lane Park happy. They don't get a crap about the education of most FCPS kids - Frisch doesn't rbrn have a college degree and Palchik is a spoiled TJ brat who has no idea what conditions are like at other schools.

I can’t believe it. DCUM actually agrees on something — we don’t like Frisch and he needs to go. Too bad a moderate alternative candidate hasn’t emerged. I would get out and campaign for that person, which is something I’ve never done.

I'll vote against him because I'm in one of the pyramids mentioned in the earlier post and he's been awful. He and "Langley First" Elaine Tholen can go to hell.
