Karl Frisch running for House of Delegates

Anonymous
Given how much hate he gets on this board, Im surprised no one has mentioned yet that Karl Frisch is running for the House of Delegates.

Hell no.

That would be better than school board. I wouldn't vote for him but at least it's a relevant position for him to hold. As someone who's not a parent of a kid at FCPS and never has been, nor will be soon, his views on the School Board should be irrelevant. It's a travesty that someone w/ no direct connection or experience to the schools is taking up his seat (no, his spouse being a teacher does NOT count).

Does he keep his school board job while running or is he resigning?

everyone knew he was using the school board gig as a stepping stone to higher office

On the other hand, having a school board member be a parent or soon-to-be parent of a child in FCPS isn't necessarily any better. Their votes would be biased to favor their child's school and pyramid. I actually prefer having candidates with interest in helping the wider community without skin in the game. At least I find it easier to believe their votes would be far more neutral.

The problem was that he ended up not having a "wider" lens on the community. He ended up making crucial decisions based on his own household concerns. That's not kosher.

I won't be voting for him again.

He's been a total disaster on the SB, including in ways that also demonstrate he has no business whatsoever on the House of Delegates (i.e., has failed to monitor and address growth in Tysons and has misallocated FCPS capital dollars to an wanted renovation of Dunn Loring building that no one wanted, will lead to unnecessary boundary changes that inconvenience families, and will impede later efforts to build an ES in Tysons that would give the county's biggest growth area a sense of community). Just a total, complete imbecile.

Oh damn!

I just heard earlier today that Keam was leaving his post... and now I see that Frisch has the lock on the Dem's candidacy for Keam's district. And looks like I'm going to still be in the district that Frisch will be representing. That sucks. Frisch, as a dem, is a lock for this seat too. Well, I guess I can skip voting for him and he'll still end up representing my district. And he'll be there a LONG time b/c this district is going to stay blue.

... depressing...

Seems there should be a special election for both seats at the same time as otherwise the county will have to shell out 2X as much money (the last special election supposedly cost the county about $250K).

Why? Patty Reed was a Republican who not that long ago represented Providence on the School Board.

He doesn't have the lock on the D nomination, at all. Holly Seibold is also running and has a lot of grassroots support. https://www.hollyseibold.com/

Good to know! I saw this in the OP's link: ("Frisch said he has been endorsed by Fairfax County Chairman Jeff McKay, Rep. Don Beyer and a handful of current and former school board members, among others.") and I thought that meant Frisch had a sealed deal.

How does this work now? Do the Fairfax County Dems pick the candidate? Or will there be a primary? I'm all for Holly.

Gosh I'm so tired of people using the School Board as a stepping stone to higher offices. Meanwhile, those folks that were dedicated to the school board position were voted or pushed out. As for Karl, good riddance.
