The Terps recruit the football/lax guys especially on defense and midfield . |
Um, they play multiple sports but they also play lacrosse year round. If you want to be an a$$hole at least get your facts straight. |
| You are an idiot. Epstein and Miezian do not have a stick in their hands this fall. Too busy helping their football teams chase wins. |
| You can't play much lax while playing varsity football. And they're not the only ones. Plenty of the players on the best local teams are play fall and/or winter sports. |
| So where is PVI going to get its talent? What's going to happen out west for them? |
| I am not a seasoned lacrosse parent so please no verbal attacks. Who would anyone spend thousands of dollars on a club if your son can play in the fall ball league with his high school teammates? The clubs play in the same league. My son's high school coach wants players to play together in the league to get practice playing together in preparation for the spring season, which makes sense. Paying $3K for a club to play against your high school JV and varsity teammates seems nonsensical to me. |
| I agree Club Lacrosse is not necessary for most families. However, if your player "lives and breathes' lacrosse, then one of the clubs *might* be a good idea. It all depends on your child --if they don't LOVE lacrosse, don't force them into playing club lacrosse. |
Because Clubs play in tournaments against other clubs. College coaches will be at some of these tournaments and allows you kid to get seen. Fall Ball is really just a warm up to keep kids fresh especially players that are playing a fall or winter sport. |

Went to my first fall ball games this weekend and see what folks have been talking about. The lax parents are really annoying. Dads walking around with an intense posture, wearing visors and pastel shorts. Yelling worthless advice to players on the field when they can't even be heard. Whining about (supposed) player and ref mistakes on the field.
My kids love lax and I will of course continue to support them, but this is a parental world that is so foreign to me and embarrassing. So much of what's been posted on this thread now makes sense. Maybe it's not unique to lax, but this intense emotional over involvement can't be good for anyone. |
| This sounds like most travel sports we've done. Maybe not the pastel shirts though. |
Um yeah, you see this in every sport at the elite/travel/club level. Its definitely not particular to one sport. |
| So sexy, not! |
Wow very different from the fall ball high school game I attended today. Most parents were sitting except a few taking some pictures, and chatting after not seeing each other since last spring. There was brief clapping when a goal was scored. |
Having been to many lax games, I call BS on this post. I've never been to any lax game that could be described that way! That's not meant as an insult by the way-just reality. Fess up, what teams did you watch and we'll see if others agree with your description. |
I agree. I've been to a ton of lacrosse games (club and otherwise) for my son and this describes exactly zero of them. I've never noticed much of a difference between lacrosse sidelines and say baseball, basketball, or soccer, despite people always saying this. It's the kind of thing that if you are primed to think it, then it becomes self-fulfilling. But in reality it's just not true. |
