2025 Cavs are 0 and 3 in HoCo
2024 Cavs are 1 and 3
2023 Cavs are 2 and 2

Didn't Cavalier post that their 2024 team was #16 in the world?

Cav 2023 2 and 2 in the second highest tier with over 40 teams in the league. That is a great result for a NOVA team.

Great result for a VA team like Cav, Evergreen, TC, etc. Clubs like Madlax and VLC aim and achieve much higher.

VLC is in the same league.

It's a bit inaccurate to group clubs like Madlax and VLC together. Madlax plays in the highest division in HoCo. VLC teams are playing in the second and even third tier divisions.

Agreed. VLC is very overrated on this board.

Hard to compare the two as the DC Dogs are basically a 2022 age team with a few older players and one or two on age players. DC Dogs are the third best Hoco team and VLC is likely between 6th and 8th best team.

At least VLC is not run by (1) a lunatic or (2) a pedophile.

Our concern when we looked for a program was the track record of college placement, the caliber of events they entered, and the people running the program (in that order).

We chose VLC and we are glad we did. Madlax and VLC are in a tier above everyone else when it comes to college recruiting. They are also alone when it comes to playing at top events.

The hater comments come from either Madlax parents, or parents of the lesser clubs trying to claim they are on the same level as VLC.

The above is just wrong. The argument that VLC plays stronger tournaments than DCE or NL isn't accurate.

The actual current hierarchy is Mad Lax is probably in a group on its own at the top. Hawks, Crabs, and FCA are also probably in this same tier for Annapolis/Bmore.

Then VLC, NL, DCE, and whatever remains of BW are all pretty similar in the next echelon down. Looneys and Team 91 MD would be in this same tier for Bmore. VLC used to be in a somewhat higher tier than the precursors of DCE and NL, but if you look at the current roster of teams, it's hard to say than the current VLC teams are better or better positioned for college recruiting as a whole. Individual years each of these clubs have strong and not as strong teams.

After that, you have Cavs, Evergreen, 3D, Top Caliber, Maryland Extreme, etc. in a third tier. Cavs is probably the best of these third tier clubs for most years.

We are comparing apples and bananas. NL and DCE are not competing for the same kids as VLC. Hawks Crabs T91 FCA are not relevant to a web page on DC Urban Moms and Dad's other than many MD kids play there. NL, DCE, and ML are getting kids from Northern Fairfax but mostly Mont. Co. ML from all of N.VA and VLC almost exclusively FFX, PW, and Loudoun.

Let's lay out the facts for the people who are looking for honest feedback.

1. Nearly all the Montgomery County kids are going to DCE (for HS), Bethesda (youth) or NL (youth and NL). Madlax is not getting these kids any more.

2. Madlax gets kids from all over NOVA, but mostly McLean, Arlington and Alexandria.

3. VLC gets kids from all over NOVA, but mostly Fairfax outside of Mclean, Loudoun and PW.

4. It depends on the grade, but Madlax and VLC are a clear cut above every other NOVA club in terms of talent, tournaments and college recruiting.

5. BW used to be up there with Madlax and VLC but has really declined.

6. If you aren't playing on a club that is listed in this post, you are not really playing on a top club or playing in great tournaments.

Agree with the above post on the state of play for clubs.

I think if you reverse your order: People, events, college, the first two take care of the last one. I do not think a club gets a kids recruited. That is very overrated. The play of the player, the ability to be seen doing it, and the coaching to help him be his best (or her for girl's clubs) is what results in college placement.

Your post is both accurate and inaccurate. Playing for a top club doesn't guarantee anything. The colleges ask the club coach/directors for honest feedback, and because they want to maintain good relations with these coaches, the club gives an honest opinion. So just because you play for a better club than another kid doesn't necessarily result in more chances for recruiting success.

How the kid does in recruiting events, prospect days, etc. makes a difference in addition to his academic record and what his coaches say about him.

But you imply that the quality of club is not a factor, and it is (to varying degrees). The better the club and team, that usually results in kids being seen more (either because they are in better events with more eyeballs, or they go deeper in events and are seen more). If a club has a strong reputation with a college recruiter, that can have an impact. If two kids are weighed the same by a college coach, they may side with the kid who plays for a better club because they believe that club generally has consistently better players, faces better competition, etc.

The club is not everything, but it can be very important. There is a reason why Madlax and VLC in this area have had consistently stronger results that the lesser VA clubs. Look at Cavalier whose recruiting list is mostly kids who committed years after they left Cavalier.

I do think that there is any implication that the quality of the club is not a factor based on the post. The quality of events and quality of the people infer that it would then be a quality club. My point was that using a track record (past performance) as a measure of future results is risky. There is one local club that has a great track record of recruiting but many question the quality of the program and the experience. I would be of the opinion that the future recruiting success will not equal the past success. Instead, I would look at what the coaches offer during tryout, is the team attracting the best new talent, do they play in quality events, does your son mesh with the coaching style? All of these factors to me are more important than how many players from the 2016 team are currently playing college lacrosse.

And it is not accurate to compare DCE and NL. DCE is by far the stronger program especially for 2021 and 2022. Just watch over the next couple of years where many of these players commit.
