I never heard of that, though as I said, there are rec teams that are stacked with travel players.

Cavs 2023 lost to Western Loudoun 14U by double digits. And Wl plays in the 2nd tier 14UA league in the NVYLL. It's a good rec team, but not a powerhouse. The parents on that team were embarrassed.

For Loudoun families who want better lacrosse, VLC is the best option by far. Reasonable driving distance to practices, superior track record for college recruiting. Cavs is content playing in B tournaments and racking up money.

My son is not in Cavs 2023, and I don't know anything about them or that game against Western Loudoun. However, this spring, in the HoCo league, Cavs 2023 were in the AA division (the second toughest division - the divisions were Elite, AA, A, and B). Their record was 6 and 1, the second best in the division, so they don't completely suck. Other travel teams in that division were Cannons, VLC, Madlax Caps, 3D, Lax Factory, Peninsula, API Diamondbacks, PG Lacrosse Club, FCA White, and USS Carriers.

For Loudoun families who want better lacrosse, VLC is the best option by far.

You have to be "invited" to try out for VLC, and I don't know how one gets an invitation. Do you know?

Cavs is content playing in B tournaments and racking up money.

My son's Cavs team, thus far, has not been pwning the other teams in tournaments. They generally have to fight for their wins against fairly comparable teams. So it doesn't seem to me like they are "playing down". If they are in less prestigious or competitive tournaments, that's apparently where they should be. But so are a crapload of other lacrosse clubs, because the tournaments the Cavs go to are huge. Dozens of fields and teams.

As for "racking up money" I don't think Cavs are any more expensive than most of the other teams in the area. Summer season costs:
Evergreen = $1350
MadLax = $1250 to $1600 depending on age (plus that $100/month extra fee)
VLC = $1000 to $1600 depending on age
3D = $1500
Cavs = $1600

If you're gonna play travel, you're going to pay ~$1,600 plus hotels, gas, and food. It is what it is.

My son played Cavalier as a younger player and we loved the families and coaches. He left for a more competitive team to be recruited, and yes he’s listed on the Cavs recruits page. He is proud of his time with Cavalier and proud that they list him. There was no ill will as he left and we are and will forever be a Cavalier family.

If you child is younger and looking for the first travel experience this is the place to be, and you can worry about the recruiting later when you see where he is as an 8th grader. Enjoy youth lacrosse, have fun and most importantly make lifetime friends. That’s what Cavalier did for us and we will forever be appreciative.

VLC - invite? No, that's Blackwolf but I'm sure you can submit video and ask if you can attend practice. Check their website.

You should be googling all this yourself but I'll help you out: here's the fall VLC tryout schedule: https://crabslax.com/ContentGeneral.aspx?ContentKey=TryoutsVLC

You have no idea what you are talking about. Just go look at the HoCo league standings:

Cavs 2024 is in the A division. They finished out HoCo league 6-1. They will be forced to move up to AA. VLC and Madlax DMV are in the B division VLC closed out 5-2 and Madlax had a bad season at 3-4. They definitely will staying down in B where they belong.

lets get to Cavs 2023

Hoco league, they went to the championship and lost to the Cannons. Both championship teams closed out the season with a 6-1 record. VLC is the same division, but lost their one game to the Cavaliers. The madlax cxapitals team went 4-2 and are without note.

given your utter lack of knowledge, I highly doubt your info about western loudoun rec team, since you think VLC is "the best", their 2022 team had a near perfect season in the hoco league. They lost every single game, except one, where they tied for the toilet bowl. If Lodoun has such an amazing team that can spank a team that went to the HoCo championship game, then they have one of the most remarkable rec programs in the entire tri state area. Makes no sense that a team that crushed the Maxlax caps team gets spanked by a rec team out on the frontier.

VLC would be a HUGE DOWNGRADE from Cavs, at least for boys.

Black Wolf churns out D1 athletes, Such as Dillon Maltz, but if you are concerned with screamers and abusive coaching, stay away from black Wolf (assuming your kid could even make the team)

For real rankings and standing of the local travel teams, check out the HoCo standings page for Spring 2018. Cavs does not have a single B team in the league.

You’re a little off. For 2024, madlax Capital was in the Elite division. Cavs were two divisions lower in the A division. Not much to brag about there.

Cavs 2023 is a solid team.

Also, the reason Cavs don’t have B level teams at HOCO is because they won’t bother entering teams they know are weak. Cavs have a solid 2023 team. Beyond that I haven’t heard of much else from that program in terms of bragging rights. Not that it matters much, but not sure where you are coming from.

Cavs have one team per age range. The teams they have are in the HOCO league. They are A and AA teams.

I'm "coming from" the standings and division placement from the actual hoco website and first hand knowledge that cabs has 1 team per age range. No teams hiding.

You are correct madlax 2024 is in the elite division and went 4-2, plus a die. Their DMV team is a B team in 2024 and is not even solid for a B as their stats show.

You are a complete idiot. We are an Arlington family and our kids play for NL. Everyone knows that in VA, VLC, Madlax and BW are by far the best options. Cavs is known for playing in lesser events to win trophies. Their best players eventually leave primarily for Madlax and VLC because they want to play for better teams in better tournaments.

Here are some other stupid things you wrote:

2024 - a VLC 24 parent told me they lost to Cavs by 1 goal in their very first game as a team. They asked for a much higher division than B and didn't get it. VLC would likely beat Cavs now

2023 - I don't know many 23 parents, but i can read the Hoco website. Both VLC and Cavs played in the 2nd highest bracket, and VLC WON IT. Cavs didn't even make the final.

2022 - I'm told VLC 22 isn't very good. But at least they are playing AA whereas Cavs are in A.

No objective person thinks Cavs is a better program than either VLC, Madlax or BW. Come on.

Agree with the poster above. If you son wants more exposure or aspires to play at the D1 level, VLC/Blackwolf/Madlax is a better option overall.

Just look at the Cav's 2020 schedule for this year's summer tournaments: Summer Celebration, Kings Challenge and Battle of Bull Run.
Compare to VLC's 2020 schedule: Big 4 Champions League, Crabfeast and Leading Edge Elite.

If you're new to the travel lacrosse tournament circuit, there are levels. I'd say Cavs play in the B level circuit, which limits exposure but opens up opportunities to win the tourney. A level usually showcases the top teams in the country (FCA, 91 Crush, Express, etc.) hence more college coaches sitting on the sidelines with clipboard in hand.

When comparing clubs people are often talking about different things. Some people are like -- a particular Cavs team is better than a particular Madlax or VLC team. Ergo, Cavs are on par with Madlax or VLC. But in terms of recruitment (if you care about that), it's still probably better to be on a theoretical Madlax Capital team that loses to Cavs because of the better exposure the Madlax kid will get.
Anonymous
Problem with your example is that there are no Cavs teams better than either their Madlax or VLC counterparts.

Anonymous
The Cavs college commit page is a joke. Almost every kid listed committed while playing for a different club. I mean, they have kids who went D1 listed who last played for Cavs in 5th grade.

Shore Wars 2018:

Cavs 2026 were 3-1
Cavs 2025 were 1-3
Cavs 2024 were 2-2
Cavs 2022 were 3-1

Not sure how this fits the theory that Cavs only enter "lesser" tournaments so they can rack up trophies. None of their teams won a bracket.
