There was just an election in Ward 3 between a Democrat who said crime was a major concern and that Ward 3 should have the same access to programs like universal Pre-K, and another Democrat who tries to completely ignore any discussion of crime and says his main focus is helping people who don’t live in Ward 3. The voters chose the latter. |
What does that have to do with USAO letting criminals go free willy-nilly for the last 8 years? We don't elect the USAO or the prosecutors in that office. It seems to me that the USAO has an agenda of making DC residents miserable at the hand of criminals. And don't even get me started on the MPD, most of whom cash a paycheck and run back to MD, WV, PA or wherever they live and don't do their jobs. Half the time they won't even show up. |
| Is there seriously no coordination in DC to figure out when a person needs to be involuntarily committed? I get the legal barriers to doing so, but it seems like the case could have been made for this guy long ago. |
Nope. USAO doesn't really talk with the City agencies, they just release whenever they want. MPD now has a degenerate no-work culture because USAO just releases the criminals they worked to bust. MPD doesn't want to do their job. It's a toxic negative feedback loop between USAO and MPD. The DC Appeals Court has also had some pretty ridiculous recent gun rulings so now its quite difficult for USAO to get a conviction on an illegal firearm charge - MPD basically has to come in with video recorded evidence and the officer has to state his probable cause before effectuating the arrest. It's insane how much the judicial branch of the US government is trying to single-handedly release criminals to run rampant on DC. |
In all fairness the average nebbish, UMC DC white guy who fits this description wouldn’t do anything if a white guy committed this crime either. They’re conditioned to look down and pretend nothings happening in violent situations like this. If some construction workers from Dundalk saw this happening it would be another story. |
The D.C. Council has the ability to hold hearings about the USAO. They did this when they thought Jessie Liu was prosecuting too few hate crimes, and successfully got her to increase the prosecution of hate crimes. The thing is, all prosecutions were down - but the Council specifically said they were only interested in looking at hate crimes, and ignored violent assaults and shootings. The title of the hearing was "Hate Crimes in the District of Columbia and the Failure to Prosecute by the Office of the United States Attorney." No effort on any other crimes, even as prosecution rates got much worse in the years since. I don't know why residents make so many excuses for the Council. But Council apologism is a huge part of the problem. |
I listen to a lot of people from different background. Those construction workers have learned that getting involved will send them to jail. |
Stop derailing the thread with this racial nonsense. If you want to talk about race, why not focus on the immigrants, hispanic women who make a low wage that were violently beaten and sexually assaulted at work by a homeless, drug addicted, infamously sexual predator and al anyone can think about is how the perpetrator needs "services". Forget about the races of the victims. |
Shocked that this happened? Please! |
Agreed, but before we go too far, is there video or witness statement evidence that there were hipstery white guys doing nothing, while cool a$$ black guys jumped in? I can sort of imagine it in my head, but just want to be fair. |
There is no evidence of this. A PP was just making this up. |
I don't believe that -- especially not with toddlers screaming in the background. Some guys (Black) threatened me (also Black) to try to take my dog and the white guys on the street in Bloomingdale stepped up. |
Sorry, but that is going to happen from time to time in pursuit of equity. |
I look down my nose at politicians who support voucher policies that put old ladies in danger and afraid to walk the halls of their apartment buildings. |
