Good. The police will finally release his name.

Ethan Crumbley is charged with one count of terrorism, four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, and 11 counts of possession of a firearm while committing a felony in connection with the school shooting that killed four students and injured seven other people, including a teacher.

Why do you think the shooter was white?

Because 95% of the time it is. Mass shooting is another disaffected white male with 'mental instability'.

That’s not science.

I would bet anything he was being tormented at school for being poor, pudgy, and unathletic. Bullying is so freaking cruel and typically nobody at large high schools gives a damn.

I think it’s likely he FELT tormented and he certainly may have been bullied but disturbed people can take what are the normal social bumps and bruises of growing up (or even actual bullying) and vomit monstrous acts that many people who have faced far worse wouldn’t dream of. We need to find a way of addressing bullying without giving one inch to the idea that mass murder somehow follows naturally from social difficulties.

This.

Most school and workplace shootings don’t happen in a vacuum. These kids lash out in these cases because they’ve been teased, bullied and ostracized their whole lives, and they reach their breaking point and go supernova.

Pearl Jam understood this in the song “Jeremy” 25 years ago

“…… Clearly I remember
Pickin' on the boy
Seemed a harmless little f@@k
But we unleashed the lion…. “

Bullying is the most evil, destructive thing kids can do. Because it creates Jeremy’s.

And shame on all of you here who so casually offhandedly dismiss any discussion of motive. You are disgusting, and a bully. And your own kids are probably bullies as well. You see things like this and it scares you, because it makes you consider the things you did to other children when you were younger. Or what you suspect your own kids are doing to a classmate right now. You think about what would happen if one of their victims snaps. You don’t actually care about the victim - you just care about that victim lashing out.

That’s why so many here are made so uncomfortable about any discussion of motive. And why you try to shutter any post about it.

-a formerly bullied kid now an adult

If you FELT bullied then you WERE bullied. Apply the same postulate to a woman who felt sexually harassed. Would you tell her it’s just the normal bumps and bruises of being a woman and to just get over it?

What motive matters? He walked into a school and shot 11 victims - killing 3.

So you don’t care about what prompted him to do that? There HAS to be a reason. I’d like to know what it is. Why wouldn’t you?

Do I care what a misanthrope used for justification for committing this vile act? No. I think he deserves the electric chair.

The reason somebody is disgruntled is separate from the fact that he had access to a gun to kill others. If he did not have a gun, no one would be dead. The issue is the lack of gun control in our country and the fact that people bow down to the second amendment as if it itself cannot be amended. Going to become the God of the GOP who seem to worship the NRA and guns.

support for gun control is at a historic low because the “woke” movement has successfully defunded the police in many places (DC, Baltimore, Minnesota, CA).

Not surprisingly, crime is skyrocketing.

With 911 slowly fading away, a gun is my only protection from rape or home invasion robbery.

Before you parrot it: my training and safe-storage means my gun won’t be used against me, so don’t bother trotting out your meaningless and incorrect statistics from the Brady bunch about “a gun in the home.” It is misleading and you know it.

You sound awfully certain about that. Good luck.

Nothing in life is certain.

But I would rather take my chances actually defending myself and my children from rape or robbery. If you’d prefer to take chances with 911 while someone is breaking in, I just hope you don’t get put on the ever-increasing hold. Good luck with that plan.

Actually, my son a classmate who “felt bullied” by things like other kids winning a game in PE and as a result threatened to kill them on the regular.

100 people calling 911 probably caused some to be on hold. If you know 911 has been called you don’t need to call as well……..

No one knows the motive yet because the shooter and his parents are lawyer'd up and not talking to police.

So knock off the discussion right now. We don't know. A few student statements are saying that he was "bullied" but there's zero details on what that means, extent and frequency of bullying, etc.

Most common cause of school shootings is access to guns.

Let. It. Go.

Bullying is not an excuse for murdering people. His parents could have address their concerns with the school or removed him from the school.

Bullying is no excuse.

His motive is that he is a POS whose daddy taught him his problems can be solved by guns. Case closed, Sherlock.

NP. Why do people think trying to understand the details behind it = justifying the crime?

You can want punishment for the crime and still want to understand the crime. In fact there's whole areas of study dedicated to it.

Do you think forensics teams are trying to free criminals by investigating the scene?

Mental gymnastics.

Pretty much this. Gun culture is a toxic societal disease, especially when it becomes a critical part of your identity or a crutch for self-confidence.
