He is being charged as an adult.

Good. The police will finally release his name. Ethan Crumbley is charged with one count of terrorism, four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, and 11 counts of possession of a firearm while committing a felony in connection with the school shooting that killed four students and injured seven other people, including a teacher. |
I think it’s likely he FELT tormented and he certainly may have been bullied but disturbed people can take what are the normal social bumps and bruises of growing up (or even actual bullying) and vomit monstrous acts that many people who have faced far worse wouldn’t dream of. We need to find a way of addressing bullying without giving one inch to the idea that mass murder somehow follows naturally from social difficulties. |
This. Most school and workplace shootings don’t happen in a vacuum. These kids lash out in these cases because they’ve been teased, bullied and ostracized their whole lives, and they reach their breaking point and go supernova. Pearl Jam understood this in the song “Jeremy” 25 years ago “…… Clearly I remember Pickin' on the boy Seemed a harmless little f@@k But we unleashed the lion…. “ Bullying is the most evil, destructive thing kids can do. Because it creates Jeremy’s. And shame on all of you here who so casually offhandedly dismiss any discussion of motive. You are disgusting, and a bully. And your own kids are probably bullies as well. You see things like this and it scares you, because it makes you consider the things you did to other children when you were younger. Or what you suspect your own kids are doing to a classmate right now. You think about what would happen if one of their victims snaps. You don’t actually care about the victim - you just care about that victim lashing out. That’s why so many here are made so uncomfortable about any discussion of motive. And why you try to shutter any post about it. -a formerly bullied kid now an adult |
If you FELT bullied then you WERE bullied. Apply the same postulate to a woman who felt sexually harassed. Would you tell her it’s just the normal bumps and bruises of being a woman and to just get over it? |
Nothing in life is certain. But I would rather take my chances actually defending myself and my children from rape or robbery. If you’d prefer to take chances with 911 while someone is breaking in, I just hope you don’t get put on the ever-increasing hold. Good luck with that plan. |
Actually, my son a classmate who “felt bullied” by things like other kids winning a game in PE and as a result threatened to kill them on the regular. |
100 people calling 911 probably caused some to be on hold. If you know 911 has been called you don’t need to call as well…….. |

No one knows the motive yet because the shooter and his parents are lawyer'd up and not talking to police.
So knock off the discussion right now. We don't know. A few student statements are saying that he was "bullied" but there's zero details on what that means, extent and frequency of bullying, etc. Most common cause of school shootings is access to guns. Let. It. Go. |
|
Bullying is not an excuse for murdering people. His parents could have address their concerns with the school or removed him from the school.
Bullying is no excuse. |
|
His motive is that he is a POS whose daddy taught him his problems can be solved by guns. Case closed, Sherlock.

NP. Why do people think trying to understand the details behind it = justifying the crime?
You can want punishment for the crime and still want to understand the crime. In fact there's whole areas of study dedicated to it. Do you think forensics teams are trying to free criminals by investigating the scene? Mental gymnastics. |
Pretty much this. Gun culture is a toxic societal disease, especially when it becomes a critical part of your identity or a crutch for self-confidence. |
