This was a very physical game by both teams who slid hard and disrupted set plays. Landon brought intensity and their fan base showed out. Landon is much more dependent on set plays/screens. Prep has more dynamic players that can score unassisted in many ways. Beating a rival 4x in one season is extremely difficult and a credit to Prep's talent.

Prep played a very sloppy game vs SJ last time and was not mentally prepared...too many late nights carousing that week after the IAC tourney win. SJ scored half their goals in transition from Prep mistakes; rebound goals and one empty net goal at the very end. Despite this, the game was very close until the last few minutes. This will not happen in a rematch. Prep has a better, deeper team. I give SJ the edge at goalie and that is it. Prep wins on Friday.

Only facet of the game that Prep has an advantage is at FO. No other position can out play St. John’s. St. John’s has been playing 2 midfield lines all season.

I expect the same result as the last two times they have played.

The Yorktown bit is played out, it has to be a troll. Nobody with a real sense of the quality of lacrosse would argue that they can compete with any of the stronger privates in DC.

By all means, give them credit for beating the opponents they play, but they are in a completely different place than any of the DC privates.

As for Landon/Prep - give Landon credit for battling throughout the game despite not being as athletic and having a possession disadvantage. And give Prep credit for putting a stop to Landon runs and limiting Landon momentum in four games. The only game Landon had an extended run was in the 9-10 game when prep fogo had multiple violations early in the second half.

I'm no more of a troll than the private school parents that assume the only way to D1 is via Landon etc. It's crazy. The privates may have a longer pedigree but that doesn't mean they are the only way.

I have been following this don’t remember reading the only way to D1 is private. Many great players from public schools at top D1 programs and even PLL. Public HS did not get them there. A great public school player would need to face several of his club teamates if they played.

Could be me but every St. John’s game I watch it seems a different player or 2 on offense have a great game. Not always the same player. Makes it very tough to try to strategize to take a player away when the others are gonna have a game if you focus on one or 2. The players to watch prior to the DeMatha game didn’t really make that big of a difference. Other starting Middie, second line middie and left handed attackman were hot this timeout around.

I see Prep going to a zone more often than not. Defense just not good enough to go man to man.

Neutral to the discussion. The current group at St Johns has not won anything yet - not a conference championship (Zags won it all in 2019); not the geico tourney so let's see how they do under the bright lights with a championship on the line. Objectively, SJ is well coached and has some good players; but Prep is deeper, especially at midfield. Should be fun to watch.

They were freshmen in '19 and covid stole last year. They would have EASILY won the WCAC this year. I can't believe Wes got jobbed as he could have won 3 ships with this class. The people who say Prep is deeper clearly have kids on the bench hoping it is so as SJC plays more kids than Prep. The 2nd middie line with #20 did the real damage against Prep. Prep is solid with best fogo in country, but there is a reason they got handled by SJC last time. 10 goals against Landon ain't great and they won't get that on Friday. Prep will turn the ball over a lot again.

I’d agree with that statement.

I question how good Preps offense really is.

They win 80% of the face offs and have the ball for most of the game. They only manage to score 10 goals against Landon… 2 of their goals came on when the Landon goalie was out of the cage and another goal was purely transition off a failed Landon clear.

Prep will need to score minimal 11 goals to beat SJC on Friday and they need to jump on the Cadets early.

One thing I know for sure is they will need to score more than the 6 they did against Bullis in IAC Championship. St. John’s is not Bullis.

Bullis was overhyped this entire year.

They beat Prep in their first IAC game of the Spring, split with Landon and split with Saint Stephens. They then lose to DeMatha in the first round of this event.

it was 6-1 at halftime after which bullis went a zone and bullis on offense just scored 1 goal in 2nd half on emo. gp didn't need to score more to win game but lost the ball too many times against 10 man ride. game against stj should be more competitive and prep should bring their a game

Have to agree. Landon continued to get better and was much more competitive with Prep late season than Bullis, and had the dramatic entertaining road win at PVI.

However, arguing over who is second is kinda moot. Prep was the best in the IAC, period. If they beat SJC in round 2, hard not to say they're the best in the area, even if split against SJC favors SJC by goal differential. By virtue of schedule, Prep has played much better competition (Bullis 3x, Landon 4x, SSSA 2x, Gonzaga) as compared to SJC (DeMatha 2x, Gonzaga, SSSA Taft).
