Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
No school is totally immune from these issues and wealth can create its own problems (e.g., the Stanford rape case) but it is also true certain schools have a much more significant issue with violent crime, particularly with increased gang activity in part related to immigration from Central America. Bad things can and do happen at Whitman, but it is far less likely to be an issue than at some others schools and easier to avoid getting enmeshed in things. |
| What if the citizens in MC asking either MCPS or MC to limit any student who are 19 or older from attending a regular public school? I will contact my school board member and other elected officer. Will you do it too? |
| FYI: there are students with disabilities (including intellectual disability, developmental disability, and autism) enrolled in MCPS public schools through age 21. |
How? I would pull my daughter out and place her in private. I will publicize the ridiculousness of the situation. We are sitting here on DCUM complaining but has anyone shared this story on their social channels? Write letters to decision makers? I did last night and won't stop. This incident has angered me that much I will do what I can to draw attention lest MC sweeps it under the rug. |
nice of you to make this 14 year old's life inconsequential If this happened to your kid, why do I somehow doubt you'd be this "forgiving?" |
Oh, ok. So let's just sit back quietly and do nothing. There is plenty to do to voice your disatisfaction with this policy. Don't just lie down and give up. |
I was told this child was sped/ED - http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Teen-Charged-With-Murder-in-Wheaton-Mall-Stabbing-410471595.html RM has an ED unit. The kid lived in Mont. Village which doesn't feed into the RM cluster. |
We had gang fights weekly at my former HS. They often happened by my room, as it connected our wing to ESOL. Those who had "established" themselves by pissing on their territory resented anyone new coming into town. So the gang warfare that started in the 'hood continued in the school. fun times During that time, my daughter was in private b/c we lived in the area. We've since moved, and she's in public. so far so good - But once the schools can no longer handle a growing population of challenging kids b/c the state prevents us from disciplining kids, both of my kids will go to private. I will teach in the roughest schools, but i will not use my kids as guinea pigs to prove any point. |
Sarcasm is not helpful. |
I am not being sarcastic. Call moco on Monday and ask how many rapes were reported this weekend. #headinsand |
How clueless are you. I care about this 14 yo ..... AND ALL THE WOMEN RAPED THIS WEEKEND, AND LAST WEEKEND. Stop using this child as a battle cry to be racist. All races rape... Most serial rapists and murderers are white, most domestic violence is committed by whitemen. Most violence against women is committed by white men. Why don't you care about those women? |
#couldgiveashitaboutrapedchild |
Not the PP you responded to, but I will say that I specifically care about this case because it was a 14 year old girl and because my kids are zoned for HS. That's a pretty normal reaction. |
Yes, bleeding from being gang raped is consensual. |
I hope this case gets more publicity and makes the national news cycle. MCPS is a huge school district. This deserves more attention since that will be the only thing that leads to change. Any idea how to get it more publicized? |
