What did you eat today, and are you fat?

"I think WW is an excellent option for many people. However, it did not work for me. Even working out and treating my thyroid condition, I have a suboptimal metabolism. I tried WW and could not eat even near the daily basic points (let alone any extra or weekly points) and lose weight. It just allowed me way too much food for what I needed to lose weight. It's a great and simple program that will work for most people, but if you have a really sluggish metabolism, it's not a good option. For me, it works better to use a food diary that tracks calories and I also like that because I can track protein, fiber and vitamins/minerals. "

I think your thyroid condition throws everything off. I had 17 pounds to lose on WW, and did it in 15 weeks. I had 26 points which was pretty strict for me.

Today I ate:

2 cups coffee with steamed low fat milk
Chobani yogurt with 3/4 cup blackberries
Booeymonger gyro chicken salad with 1 TBS of the tzatziki sauce, 1/2 pita; handful of kettle chips
Mixed berry nutrigrain bar and apple
Handful almonds, small glass white wine
2 servings beef and broccoli (heavy broccoli) and fat tire beer
2 nestle mini easter egg/peanut butter candies

I'm not fat but I exercise regularly.

Today:

Breakfast: nothing but water

Lunch: 2 c bbq chicken salad (about 4 oz grilled chicken breast, romaine, black beans, corn, 1 tbsp ranch, 1 tbsp bbq sauce), water, ice tea
Dinner: 1 c veggie soup, 3 shrimp stuffed with artichoke, 1/4 c pasta pearls with tomato, 7 bites of various desserts (it's my birthday), 3 glasses of champagne
Me: 1 yr post partum, 5'5", 150# (need to lose about 20#)

When it's not my birthday

breakfast: nothing but coffee or sugar free red bull
lunch: soup (2c, usually @300 cals, 6 g fat) water
snack: raw veg or fruit, water
dinner: usually terrible (take out or restaurant) and usually paired with nearly a bottle of wine.

This was illuminating to write down.

pre-workout snack: orange - 100 calories?
lunch: lean cuisine, homemade vegetable soup (just veggies and broth) - 400 calories
snack: 1 cup of nonfat greek yogurt, small homemade granola square - 200 calories
dinner: rice and beans (indian style) with steamed spinach. -500 calories

So around 1600 calories, and a solid 1 hour workout. This is a typical day - though one or two days I hit 1900 calories. (I track what I eat, and measure my food) I work out four days per week. I am overweight - 6', 215 pounds.

So is this a maintenance diet for you or are you losing weight with this intake?

Losing, but very, very slowly - five pounds over the last three months.

Who are you people that measure everything in ounces and teaspoons? What a miserable existence.

I think there are some serious eating disorders going on here.

I mean 3/4 of blackberries? Really?

People who know that the SAD distorts portions, are tired of being fat, and want to know what they are eating....

Lunch: 3 small slices homemade veggie pizza, 1 small container apple sauce and a cereal bar
Afternoon: Starbucks lemon pound cake, m&ms and a string cheese
Evening: 2 egg rolls, a few slices of homemade pizza, a veggie sausage on a hamburger bun

Not proud. And today was a relatively good day.

Yuck! You are never going to lose weight on this diet. Do you ever eat a vegetable? How about lean protein?

Yikes.

Yes. Lean protein and veggies almost everyday. Just not these days that were mentioned above.

And in my defense there was some good and healthy stuff there...lentils-fruits-peanut butter-brown rice. Dessert is my weakness (obviously.)

I love the pound cake, m&m's and string cheese. That's how I roll too.

Well, if you want to lose ten pounds, you need to eat lots of lean protein and vegetables - EVERY day. You can't just go on benders and eat a bunch of carbs and sweets for days on end and eat NO vegetables. It's disgusting.

Or you can stay 10 pounds overweight and eat chocolate for breakfast. Up to you.

I do not drink coffee or tea, or alcohol, I also do not drink soda of any kind. I don't eat much sugar. I am 5'5" tall and I weigh 170lbs!! I have a severe metabolic resistance to weight loss, and I suffer from type 2 diabetes. It really sucks. I developed gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy, and I have never been the same. I could starve myself for weeks and I would most likely gain 10 lbs. My dad got diabetes at age 38 and he was never overweight.

Yes. I would rather have chocolate for breakfast and be 10 lbs overweight. For now. Not being snarky. Honest question. Honest answer. There WAS skim milk in the hot chocolate at least!
