What happens if FCPS isn't staffed by the first day of school?

I bet they arent paying that IA teacher pay.0

This is why I decided not to long-term sub this August/September. I just knew I’d end of subbing the whole year (by just renewing the sub job) in a classroom with limited benefits and pay - instead of FCPS paying me as a licensed teacher with benefits.

I thought that subs were getting benefits if they were a school based sub that did an average of 30 hours a week.

DP, these long-term sub positions are different than the school based sub positions.

Nope. Same school did the same thing last year with an unfilled vacancy, then were shocked when the IA didn’t return for this year.

The inability of FCPS to staff their front offices is also detrimental to the functioning of a school. I've been working with someone for two months -- who wants me to start Monday but I haven't received my "salary calculation review" yet so I don't know how I'm supposed to show up to support the Principal on Monday. And I was a long-term sub so I'm already in the system!

We waste too much money on consultants, lawyers, and unnecessary administrative positions at Gatehouse. Start increasing the salaries of people who work directly with the kids - bus drivers, counselors, and teachers. Of course, that’s never going to happen.

The cost of those “unnecessary” Gatehouse positions is miniscule.

What about the consultants? Lawyers to defend unreasonable decisions? The additional work foisted on teachers because of those "experts" in Gatehouse? Remember the salary of the Gatehouse positions is only part of the equation. The contracts, benefits, and travel add greatly to the budget. For example: "Equity" speicialist (or whatever it is called now) has a staff to support her. She gives contracts and hires consultants. Surveys cost money. On and on and on.

Oh the equity specialists are a real treat. Each time I attend one of their presentations there is a nice ‘white people bashing’ article we’re forced to read. They’re well worth the money… for sure.

The issues in schools go deeper than the money....although yes I agree pay more.

Still a drop in the bucket compared to in-school teacher and staff salaries. The only way to pay people more is to have a bigger budget, which means higher taxes.

Or, cut spending where you can. People are struggling with inflation. They don't want higher taxes.

A bunch of us just spent Saturday at school trying to get ready for Monday because they only gave us about two days free this week to actually do what we needed to do.The rest was spent in meetings and presentations. We also had to attend an in-service where we were shown a video of how to elevate our teaching. In the video, the kids were very conscious of being filmed and there were about 5 adults in the room monitoring them while the exemplary teaching was being demonstrated. Nice to have so much help.

That is a part of the Transformative Social Emotional Program. We need to get rid of programs like SEL, but let’s start with the people who approved to implement it in our schools in FCPS. That would include people at Gatehouse who make those decisions. Also, let’s freeze the recent salary increase of the School Board; they don’t deserve to get paid a cent. If anything, they should be the ones paying the legal fees that are about to come due to their refusal to comply with The 2023 Model Policies. It is their fault, not the taxpayers’, nor the schools’ support staff.

Principals are still posting their school’s vacancies on social media sites like Facebook. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it at this point. They sound desperate, and understandably so.
